from myself, part 3

November 2083 - Micah and Mariah Buchanan are 25. Chandler Price and Jane (Hudson) Price are 25.

* Soundtrack: "Songbird," by Fleetwood Mac *

In the beginning, Chandler and Jane had nothing but love.

No really, nothing but love.

And a used garage sale couch, folding card table, and two lawn chairs. They had some clothes, but they weren't very nice ones, so they didn't bother to wear them most of time, when they were just home alone.

For the first week of their life together, they spent their evenings in the dark. Chandler had forgotten to buy a lamp and they had to wait for his next paycheck to be able to have even light. But that was no big deal - they considered it an adventure. They loved each other in the dark, and when all else failed, Micah and Mariah lived just up the street a bit, with their hot meals and actual dinnerware to eat off of.

Over the months, they began to accumulate things. First, a lamp. Then they bought a bed, a radio, some books. They filled up their life from nothing, bit by bit.

They got promotions in their jobs, and so they filled up their lives a little faster. They bought more books. They bought a welcome mat for their front door. But they still have that first garage sale couch, the one they slept on before they had a bed, or even any light. But now it's surrounded with the beginnings of their life together.

And now they're getting married.

***

And as their ceremony begins, Jane walking down the aisle in a rustle of cream tulle and embroidered gold roses, Chandler says, "Score!"

***

Mariah finds her husband staring out at the season's first real snowfall, the bright white reflecting moonlight through the glass and onto their skin. "It snowed," Micah says.

"Yeah," she says. "They said it would. Wasn't that fun? The wedding, I mean, didn't you have fun?"

"Yeah, it was fun," he says. "Do you think we were ever that happy?"

"There was something wrong," he says.

"With what?" she says, the smile flushed from her face. She knows what he's talking about. In the space of days, she's felt set free. Of course he would notice the difference. She's tempted to protest - nothing was wrong. But she doesn't. Protesting it out loud won't make it any more true. She would beg him to just believe her, just let it go so they can move past it. Because this is one truth he never needs to know. The honest truth would only cause them more harm.

"I think I was bitter," she says. "Not at you, but at everything. At the way things happened. At how fast. For the chances we didn't get. That's not your fault, and it never was, and you couldn't have helped me with it either."

Please, please believe me, she says to him, in her mind. Can he feel it in the way she looks at him? She knows he always could before. So now, she tells him with her eyes, It's all okay now, I never need to look away.

"Okay," he says.

She takes his hand in hers. "Come on," she says. "You haven't danced with me yet."

They steal a quiet, empty corner, where other couples have cleared away and stopped dancing by now, to eat wedding cake, to drink the spiked punch. Three bottles of rum they poured into that punch, and it shows. Despite the fresh layer of frost outside, this reception hall is flushed with bright smiles and warmth.

"The night we met," he says. "Do you remember that night?"

"Of course I remember," she says. He and Chandler spiked the punch at that party too. "We were at a party. And after everyone went home, we went outside to lay out on the grass, under the stars. I had a leaf in my hair, and you leaned down over me and you said, You have a leaf in your hair. And when you got it out, your fingertips kind of accidentally brushed my cheek."

His smile is mischievous. "That wasn't an accident."

When they laugh, it's filled with hurt, and at the same time, filled with the promise of so much more. She wishes her heart to him. He can have all of it, over and over again. She always wanted that for him.

"I love you," she says.

"Do you?"

"I do," she says, whispering near his ear. "I would marry you all over again. Again and again and again."

He laughs. "And again?"

"And again," she says.

"And I wish you all the love in the world, but most of all, I wish it from myself."

Notes: wedding outtakes here. And as this was the final story piece for the "from myself" storyline, so the final author's note is here... And a Buchanan family extras post of their own, since I took way too many pictures of them for these stories, lol! :)

  1. I liked it!

Jane looks beautiful at her wedding. I love that veil.

I'm happy Mariah and Micah are finding their way back to each other and that Mariah has put some of those old disappointments behind her.

  2. Aww, that actually brought a tear to my eye. I'm glad Micah and Mariah finally seem to be on the right track.

And those wedding photos were awesome! I especially love the ones of Chandler and the guys, serious LOL!

  3. Yes! They've finally sorted everything out.

I don't think I could handle another divorce, lol.

  4. Heredon, thanks! That's my favorite veil too!

Roxie, awww, thank you! This one (and all of its parts), pretty much made me bawl like a baby, lol! But you know, I'm a sappy dork like that ;)

Shake, score one for saving a marriage in Lakeside Heights? :)

You can remember this the next time one of my couples breaks up - at least you got Micah and Mariah, lol!

  6. Jane is such an adorable bride. I love the photo with Chandler and the guys, and Jim checking out how nice Chandler looks in his suit, lol!

I'm glad Mariah and Micah are reconnecting and Mariah has finally figured out what she needed to put all of this behind her.

And hey, I see Jane let Mariah have a little more material for her bridesmaid dress than Bella did, lol! ;)

  7. Jane and Chandler's wedding was gorgeous, I'm glad they got a beautiful wedding, and they no longer have any need to eat Micah and Mariah's warm food from necessity ;)

Awww, I let out a little sniffle too, I'm so glad that they finally got things settled, they finally know where their relationship stands, on sturdy ground!

And I was thinking the same thing as Shana! I see she was allotted a bit more fabric this time ;) She didn't get into quite as much trouble either, thank goodness!

  8. I love Chandler at the beginning, fixing the sink in his cute little overalls. I've been reading the LSB thread at VSS and I read the first few paragraphs of this that you posted in the screenshot - it was nice to see it all come together with the pictures. What an adorable couple they are.

Jane and Chandler had a lovely wedding! So far, all of my playable NPCs have had underwear in the bathroom, legacy-style weddings but my second generation Sims might get a little more lucky than that! And I just so need to use that veil for somebody. I almost used it for Lia but her dress was lacy enough!

I really giggled at Jim swooning over Chandler, with Luke right there.

Most of all, I was just really happy to see Micah and Mariah talking and connecting again. I'm glad she was honest with him and that they're on a good path now. I've said it before but I was worried about those two. I guess she really did get what she needed from her mum.

  9. Awww... this is so sweet... for both couples. So glad to see that they worked it all out in the end.

The wedding pictures look great, too!

  10. Monique, thank you! :)

Shana, thanks! I've always adored having all these guys together! Never a boring moment! I hope they all keep meeting up from time to time, when they've all got little kiddies running around.

And I figure after two horrible bridesmaid dresses, Mariah deserves to wear something a little better. Remember the grape dress that Keri put her in? :)

Tessa, it makes the day sweeter, I think, since they started from nearly nothing.

Micah and Mariah sure did give us a scare, huh? I never thought they'd have to go through all of that, but I'm happy to see them make it through.

Carla, LOL @ "underwear in the bathroom!" :) Most of my secondary cast get pretty skimpy weddings too (though I have to say, I allow them clothes, lol!) But I'm a little more attached to Chandler and Jane than the rest of my semi-playables. I've been playing Chandler ever since he was zitty and seventeen and making out with Keri in her parents hot tub.

It's okay, Luke gets it - he's got a crush on Chandler too, lol! This is super top-secret, of course. I don't figure Chandler would be very comfortable knowing two of his best friends wouldn't mind seeing him in the buff! ;)

You know, ever since Mariah talked to her mom, I've really felt her being completely settled. But it was (maybe is?) Micah that I was worried about. For a minute, I didn't know if he was going to buy her little half-truth there. But really, he wants to put this behind them as much as she does. So I'm calling it closed, lol! I'm pretty sure he'll let it go from here, considering she isn't planning on giving him any reason to change his mind.

    Blackcat, thank you! :)

  11. Beautiful wedding! I love the heart farts at the groom, lol. Mariah and Micah were so sweet at the end of this update, with the remarrying again and their little dance. I'm glad things are on the path of good, I like these two together. And Mariah is much easier to read when she isn't bitter. :)

  12. Maisie, thank you! It's been a long time since she wasn't bitter - I'm looking forward to letting her settle into this nice life she has! :)

  13. I completely forgot that Chandler and Jane were the couple that ended up with no lights, lol. That makes this wedding even sweeter.

But *sigh* those last shots of Mariah and Micah were just perfect. It's so nice after all of this heartbreak to see these two heading down the right road.

  14. Lunar, lol, I forgot about their first couple weeks in the dark too! Lights were one of the first things they bought, because quaint as it was, finding their way around in the dark is kind of hard - especially with the lighting mods in place, lol!

Glad I remembered though, at the last minute, because yes, it does really add something to their big day.

Micah and Mariah earned their happy ending, I think. :)

  15. A perfect ending to this little arc. I loved the reminiscences of Chandler and Jane, how they started with nothing material, nothing but each other yet it seemed to be enough.

So glad to see Mariah has finally gotten the poison out of her system and is ready to move on and have the life with Micah that she needs and he deserves. I wish them many happy years to come!

  16. Illandrya, thank you! I'm glad it felt right :)

And yes, poison is a good word for what that was.
