I exited the game and opened up Lot Adjuster. I popped the left side out 3 units.
And that's all! lol!
So I went back into the game, and the important part is this: do not move your lots! If you move your lots, the game won't let you put them back together like this again.

So I found these matching road tiles. They match well enough anyway. It's not exact, but you'd have to be an anal-retentive Virgo like me to even notice the very slight color difference, lol!
Also you might notice a little bit of fuzziness on the floor tiles in front of the pub. This is caused by the pub floors bleeding into the lack of floors here on the parking lot. So I just matched some sidewalk tiles in front of the pub to be just the way they are from the actual pub lot. That stops them from going fuzzy as you move around the lot.

The Lot Adjuster also has options now for moving a lot completely away from the road entirely, and I think that might be my next project to try. But for now, this is a fun way to make use of that bothersome empty space behind smaller lots.
If only I had remembered that you can't zone the lot to community if you want your cars to stick, lol! Remember that on my behalf, so you don't have to place all those cars twice! ;)
The road tiles I used are linked above, and you can find the newspaper boxes, and yellow parking blocks from Retail Sims. (My new favorite place, for sure!)
And as always, BACK UP YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD before trying any of these new tricks. And remember, this is totally not a tutorial, but just something I tried once, lol! Have fun! :)
I shouldn't have come to read this right after I woke up. I need a cup of coffee before I can fully comprehend something like this, lol. I haven't used the lot adjuster although I'm tempted to give it a try now.
ReplyDeleteIt really looks great. It always bothers me to see the empty spaces behind small lots especially in a "downtowny" area. You've done a great job :)
You and your building make me wanna build stuff! Definitely building a TS2 neighborhood requires special finesse, especially if you want lots to be usable.
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of the lot adjuster, but I've never gotten it to work on my computer. Have you seen Windlebridge Castle? I show that off a lot, but I don't know if I've shared that link with you. She used the lot adjuster to build her entire castle out of multiple lots. So awesome! Too bad she's not playing TS2 anymore.
Oh wow! I've used the lot adjuster before, but never for something as cool as this. Very creative!
ReplyDeleteNice trick, thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteOoo, I'm tempted to try this now too! Mine probably wouldn't be as good as yours though, I'd probably end up with a building in the middle of nowhere, and then a parking lot in the middle of a street on the opposite side of town!
ReplyDeleteOh, wow, you can overlap them??? Never knew that. Time to get over my lot adjuster-paranoia! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the link to the road tiles, too. I've got hood decor road tiles, that I use to make fake roads through large blocks (another way of dealing with large empty spaces behind buildings), then place hood decor buildings along them to give the look of more streets between the 'real' ones.
If you can place actual lots away from the road, then I could place real lots along my fake roads and in effect add streets to my existing hood.
Also, this is a fun way to deal with cars in parking lots on community lots: http://xr.com/0yuh
I never thought to try lot adjuster that way. Hmmm...another thing to add to the list of things to try out.
ReplyDeleteLike Blackcat, I have a bit of Lot Adjuster-paranoia! I don't know what I thought Lot Adjuster did but I didn't think it could do that! Seriously, that looks extremely cool and realistic.
ReplyDeleteI didn't try it with all the road lines etc., but I've put cars in lots.
ReplyDeleteI cheat. I change the lot zoning. Put the cars around the club where I want to have cars, and then save and change the zoning again. Not as elegant as what you did which is gorgeous!!
Sari, lol, definitely easier after coffee! ;)
ReplyDeleteLunar, I think I have seen Windlebridge before. Yes, that's a huge effort of Sim-building! I don't think I knew it was all separate lots though. Very impressive!
Galloway, thanks! I just try things - sometimes it works and sometimes it's a big fat fail, lol!
Apple, you're welcome! :)
Tessa, lol! That'll probably happen to me one of these times too!
Blackcat, yes, you should! I've never had anything disastrous happen (yet) ;)
I do have that decorative cars mod! And I do actually use it in most of my community lots, but it never gives me a very random selection of cars. I don't know, maybe I'm doing it wrong - but it always gives me like the same two or three cars, repeated, lol! I have to keep refreshing to get different cars, and after a few times, I finally get something I can work with.
So for this lot, with as many spaces I have, I figured it would be impossible to get all different cars in that many spaces. So there's my gripe on that one, lol! Normally though, I do find that mod very useful!
Rome, I know it! There seems to be a lot of great ideas going around lately! Probably about half of my current projects were inspired by seeing something in someone else's hood and thinking - oooh, I want that!!! :)
Carla, I was surprised too! I didn't know if it would or not, but I thought I'd give it a try ;)
Beth, oh, that's what I was trying to do! I wonder what I did wrong then? First I placed all my cars in residential mode, saved, changed to community, saved - but then when I went back into the lot, the cars were all gone. Is it because I went back into the lot again in build mode?
I guess I could just zone it to community once and never go back in there again. I mean, it's just a parking lot - not like I'd need to do much more to it, lol!
Thank you so much for this!! You've inspired me yet agaig to add, another, new thing to my hood!! I'm building parking lots everywhere!
ReplyDeleteI had no idea you could do all these kind of things with the lotadjustere!
So thank you, thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!!!
Tanja, you're welcome! I had no idea either until I tried it, lol! Have fun! :)
