September 2083 - Hailey Monif is 38, Hazel is 14. (Berjes Monif and Bradley Guthrie are 38)
* note: Just a little quickie update for you about my Monif girls. I was just in there to give Hailey a little makeover, and all this came out, lol!
I've been snowed-in with the kid this week, and a hubby working from home, which is not very conducive to my writing. Or maybe we can blame it on Leila, she stole what little brain I had left over these past couple days and refuses to let me work on Jodie's story, or anything else at all. Though this mini-update does indirectly have to do with Jodie's story a little anyway... which I hope is coming up very soon, if Leila allows it ;) *
One day, after school, Berjes stops by to see his daughter. He swears he doesn't miss Hailey, but he misses Hazel. He misses every morning when they'd watch cartoons together, their cereal bowls full of sugar and milk. He misses helping her with her science and math homework in the evenings.
"I'm here to see Hazel," he tells his ex-wife as Hazel's school bus pulls up, as if she didn't already know that good and clear.
It fills Hailey's heart with glee, the way he's all twisted out of shape over her nonchalance. She never knew revenge could feel so good, especially when the only revenge she's taken is simply being happy herself.
But she has to admit he's been so sweet with Hazel. He stops by before and after school just to see her. At least, she hopes this is all really just for Hazel.
Though Berjes doesn't care to hear his daughter is actually dating. He still stands by the fact that she's just too young to date, and you'd better believe she doesn't have any boyfriends in the city when she visits... or none that he knows of anyway.
And speaking of boyfriends...
It used to be that Hailey needed Berjes around to fix things around the house, but now she just calls her new "friend" Bradley, who happens to come over that night to fix the computer for her. She's working on her next novel, and she's not handy enough to fix it herself.
"Nice to meet you," Bradley says, but he's only met by a scowl from Berjes.
Hazel says, "Dad, your face is gonna stick like that."
Berjes stays with them for a mid-afternoon sandwich. Hailey almost feels sorry for the poor guy. Everybody wants to know that they're doing better off then their ex, but if Hailey ever needed any sweet revenge for the past fifteen failed years of her life, then the deflated look on his face is plenty.
***
Hailey met Brad in the weeks before her divorce was finalized, but she'd long since grieved her marriage by then. She isn't looking to settle down so soon, if at all, though Brad does ask her about it sometimes. She hasn't gotten that far yet. She's only been divorced for ten months, and even if she has grieved her past, she isn't quite ready to start her future.
Especially when the other half of her past is recurring like a bad dream. Somehow she isn't surprised to see Berjes walking down the street towards them that night, as she and Brad come home from a date. "Wait for me inside," she tells him.
"Hazel is out with her friends," Hailey says, the irritation showing on her brow.
"I can wait," he says.
"No, you can't," she says. "I have company. Go home, Berjes. Hazel is out until ten tonight."
"Why don't you call your girlfriend?" Hailey doesn't intend any hostility in this. She doesn't want to see him alone.
"She's not my girlfriend," Berjes says.
"Well I'm sorry about that," Hailey says.
She apologizes to Brad too when she comes inside. It's embarrassing sometimes, and it's just sad too.
But he understands. "It's okay," he says. "This magazine is kind of interesting anyway."
He and his daughter's mother went through some tough times too in their past.
And the truth of it is, she doesn't know if she loves him, or if they'll be together forever. But she knows she's having more fun now than she's had in a really long time. And that's what's most important to her, before she gets any older and finds that her whole life has been wasted away.
Hazel is pretty good about making her curfew. She's not as good about making C's in algebra. But she's always been a good friend, a loving daughter, and very observant about people and the way things work between them. And when she comes home that night, she's made this observation, "Mom, Bradley isn't really your friend, is he?"
"Of course he is."
"But I mean, are you going to marry him?"
"I don't know yet," Hailey says. "Things are different when you get to be my age, when you've done it all already. I just don't know."
"But I get it," Hazel says. "It's kind of like when Natty and Charlie said they were just friends for like two years, and now they've got their tongues all down each others throats?"
"Maybe," Hailey says. "Maybe it might be kind of like that."
She and Bradley aren't officially dating... yet. She wants to be single a while before she settles down again. But they've got a nice plump three-bolts (122), and he's already given her more dream dates than Berjes ever did... (which isn't hard to do, lol!) And yes, he is the one who called her during the divorce proceedings ;)
He's never been married before, but he does have an adorable daughter of his own with an ex-girlfriend. I gave him the daughter in retrospect, because by "befriending" Hailey makes him 38-ish as well, and as a family Sim, I figured he'd want a kid of his own. And by the time Hailey is, if ever, ready to settle down with him, it could be too late. (And she's been rolling baby fears anyway, so I'm guessing she's done at this point in her life.)
Abby is eleven, in the fifth grade at Lake City Elementary, and lives with her mother and step-father in Lake City. I'll have you guys meet her in the school update that's coming up. It figures one of my non-playables would finally give me another born-in-game redhead, lol!
And this is Hazel giving Brad the third-degree about what his intentions are with her mother, lol! She likes him well enough though.
This whole mini-update came about because Hailey needed a little makeover for her new job - she'll start teaching elementary classes at the Lakeside Heights school this fall. She never liked her first job, or her second, and she hasn't even gone into this job yet and already she doesn't want to go to work! I swear this woman has never wanted to go to work a day in her life, lol!
Sorry honey, you're a single mom now, you've gotta work!
Why does this happen sometimes with custom hair, with the white transparent edges??? And then sometimes the hair just is fine. So weird. But overall, my Monif girls are doing just fine...
Which is more than I can say for Berjes, lol! He's not taking this half as well, and he's still ANGRY at Hailey... (That's a want to "drink Hailey" a la cowplant milk, in the top corner.)
But then I guess, the whole thing with Jodie doesn't help.
Berjes is so cute though, the way he walks by every morning before school, and every afternoon as Hazel is coming home. I suppose it's probably because he's furious at Hailey still, but the timing is just funny, and he never seems to want to kick over the trash can or anything. So maybe part of him is really there just to see Hazel. Which is a long trip since he lives in the city now ;)
ROFL that "drink sim" want cracks me up every time I see it. When I first saw it I had to pause the game and see what it was. I laughed and laughed.
ReplyDeleteI;m glad to see that they are doing and moving on with their lives. Great mini update!
Berjes must really not like Hailey...I've had that happen only like once but that had to do with a very annoying cow mascot hitting on my sim's girlfriend and then on him.
ReplyDeleteI have never seen the want with the man sitting behind the desk with a house in front. Does that mean they want to work at home or something?
I think the drink want is funny too. That and the want to see someone's ghost is the closest Sims come to wanting to kill somebody.
ReplyDeleteMy mind might be drawing a blank, but I'm not recognizing the want that you have locked in the upper-righthand corner of Hailey's panel.
Riverdale, I know, lol! That want pretty much means that he'd like to see her dead! (Which I'm ignoring for the sake of this story, btw, I really don't think my Berjes wants to see Hailey DEAD. Maybe he wouldn't mind seeing Brad dead, lol!). Oh, and there's the want to "see the ghost of..." too, which also means they want to see someone dead, but Berjes hasn't rolled that one yet ;)
ReplyDeleteRome, the desk one with the house means "stay home from work" and it's usually pleasure Sims who roll it (Hailey is pleasure secondary). It's usually quite rare, except with Hailey who rolls it every day, lol!
Snarky, lol, I was also just writing that as you posted, about the "ghost of" want :)
That one in Hailey's top right is "5 1st dates".
lol, Berjes, drinking your ex-wife probably won't endear you to your daughter. ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to see Hailey and Hazel are doing well and moving on with their lives. I'm sure it has to be hard for Berjes to see Hailey dating and happy while he's alone and not doing so well in the romance department.
great mini update! I love the title!
ReplyDeleteHailey's makeover is great. she's very pretty. And I can't wait to see her be a teacher! That's not a job you can just walk away from!
Sims roll the craziest wants sometimes, I'll tell ya.
The hair thing I get sometimes too! It gets all weird and see through. I'm sorry I can't be of more help, I don't know anything about meshes.
It was cool to get a little update on the whole Monif family, post divorce!
Abby is cute! And Holly gets around!
Shana, yeah, I don't think Hazel would appreciate that, lol! Berjes isn't having the best time right now ;)
ReplyDeleteBilly, thanks! I think Hailey will enjoy being a teacher, as much as she'd enjoy doing any kind of work, lol!
And that's exactly why I picked Holly for Brad's retrospective baby-mama, lol! I figured she's proven herself to be flighty and to make bad choices, so why not an unplanned child in her youth? :)
And she's also getting on in the years too, while still childless. She's actually a family Sim herself, so she would have wanted a kid anyway. Abby though, since I made her eleven, would predate all of these stories, even Holly's little tryst with Jeremy Nova.
Then, as you can see in that picture, I paired her up with Bill Miller, my other wanna-be homewrecker, lol! I don't know if they'll have any children of their own at this point, since they're both almost forty. Maybe they'll try.
Aw, well, let's just pretend Berjes is only there to see Hailey then!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad Hailey has found someone (and Abby is so cute!) although that lunch with Brad and Berjes at the same table looked awkward! I can just imagine the glances happening during that meal!
Poor Berjes...he seems really lonely, and I guess he kind of is. Lonely and bitter. "Drink Hailey". Oh God...
But this has made me more excited for the Jodie update (I can wait though, if Leila is still calling to you - I'll be happy to read about her too!)
"I think Hailey will enjoy being a teacher, as much as she'd enjoy doing any kind of work, lol!"
Hey, that sounds exactly like me!
Also, I am so glad that someone else has that hair problem! Just to add to the info bank about this glitch, I've only ever noticed it with kids and teens. It also happens with EA hairstyles sometimes. It happened with Rebecca Kirby's hair while I was playing her. I almost posted the exact same thing today, just to see if anyone else had the problem!
What I notice is that they go off to school with their hair normal and they come home and it's all weird. You can fix it by deleting the Sim but that is such a pain. And it doesn't mean the problem won't reoccur. Next time it happens, I'm going to try using the Temporal Adjuster from InSim to change the hair briefly and then change it back. If that works, it will interrupt the game less than deleting the Sim.
Okay, end novel!
Ooo, Hailey's new "friend" is a cutie. I love how Hazel summed it up. So his tongue is down your throat-got it.
ReplyDeleteOkay, I've also noticed this hair glitch with teens too, so I'm glad you brought it up and that Carla's offering solutions. Handy.
ReplyDeleteBut oh Berjes. It is cute that he shows up at the same time every day, especially if he crosses his arms and looks all angry.
It's nice to see Haily moving forward though. He friend is very cute. But aside from that, it's also wonderful to see her taking her time too.
And Hazel, lol!
Love that this entry came out of your popping in just to change her hair. XD
Carla, oh, those are some great ideas about this hair thing! I'll definitely try some of those next time I play. Now that you mention it, I think I have only seen it on teens. How weird.
ReplyDeleteI think I need to help Berjes find his mojo again, lol! He's not doing too well on his own.
The problem with Leila is that it isn't even her turn for like ten more stories, lol! Sheesh, get back in line, girl!
I've got Jodie on the line now though ;)
Apple, he is pretty cute, isn't he? More importantly though, he's not a fortune/romance Sim, lol! He's a good guy though, and attentive, which I think will be good for her.
I can't for the life of me remember what he does for a living though, lol! It's nothing unusual, I'm sure, or I would probably remember ;)
Lunar, I was very surprised that all this came out from a simple makeover visit, lol! I guess they had some story to tell :)
It was about time for an update from them though, since otherwise they wouldn't even get a proper turn until the next round. That's why I do these mini-updates - most times, one turn each round is far to long to let a story go unattended.
Berges is a good father but very typical regarding his little girl growing up and possibly one day being entangled in relationships. Like with most fathers, I think they just don't want to see their little girls growing up and facing the big bad world.
ReplyDeleteHazel is a smart cookie though. It sounds like she doesn't mind her mother having a new beau.
I glad Hailey has someone else in her life now! It's for the best. Although, I am also glad that Berjes is making an effort with Hazel. She definitely still needs a father!
ReplyDeleteLoved the, "dad, your face is going to stick like that!" LOL!!
I can see this situation is eating Berjes alive. Oh well. Wanting to "drink" your ex-wife is still not the solution to your problems, no matter how difficult they seem!
ReplyDeleteI've also had that glitch with the hair and it's so annoying. Glad to know there's ways to fix it.
Carnaxa, too true! Dads must know what those teenage boys get up to, lol!
ReplyDeleteMao, I do think Hailey will be better off for this - Berjes though, lol! He's going to need a little more time to sort things out ;)
Sari, thankfully cowplants are highly illegal in LH, huh? :)
