happy birthday to you...

September 2083 - Welcome to Lakeside Heights: Ian, Ingrid, Jacob, Catherine, and Rebecca.

It was a rainy day, early this September, two weeks shy of her due date and not even the slightest warning when the Thompson twins decided to make their sudden appearance. Adam was just about to help Heather down the stairs when her water broke there at the landing. Adam is a mathematician, and he didn't really take many health classes in college, and it's been four years since Laney was born, so he's not really sure if he remembers this all very well.

Regardless though, these babies are coming!

And Amy, their eighteen year-old nanny, doesn't think she was prepared for all this to start so soon! Or in a darkened upstairs hallway! But she gets on the phone, and luckily, their doctor is right here in town.

Jodie shows up just in time to make the deliveries, which happen right there in that very hallway, on some spare bath towels.

Ian was born first, at 5:30 in the evening, with his sister Ingrid following promptly seven minutes behind.

Heather is doing just fine, but she goes to bed for some well deserved rest. The babies are cleaned up and brought downstairs to meet their big sister. Both babies have their mother's brown hair, and their father's gray eyes.

Heather and Adam Thompson, and big sister Laney, would like to welcome babies Ian and Ingrid!

***

It's three in the morning when Charlotte feels the first signs of labor. She wakes up Paul and they call the doctor out to Bluewater.

Charlotte's labor is quite a bit slower, as is usual the first time around. So Paul plays the babies a concerto on the violin hoping the music might lull them out into the world. Or at least Charlotte likes it, if nothing else.

But sitting around, listening to pretty music, isn't going to get these babies born. When Jodie arrives, she orders Charlotte up onto her feet, and gets her walking laps across the big open living room. Paul carries on with the music though, because Charlotte likes it.

Jodie is thinking, as she looks on with sleepy eyes, My god, it's like five in the morning, how is he even awake???

It's nearly seven in the morning, and only when Jodie leaves the room to use the bathroom do the Gallagher twins finally decide to show up. Paul also finally decides to put down the violin.

Jacob is born first, at 7:23 am, followed soon after by his sister Catherine. Jodie checks them out, cleans them up, and says, "They're lovely, congratulations, I'm going back to bed now."

Both babies have brown hair. Jacob has his parents' blue eyes, and Catherine has brown eyes like her grandpa Orlando.

Charlotte has some rest and a shower, and by about ten in the morning, their living room has filled up with the friendly faces of neighbors and family, eager to meet the new little ones.

Audrey says, "Wait, right there, now that's a fine-looking baby if I ever saw one!"

Charlotte and Paul Gallagher (and the whole Centowski clan, plus neighbor Leila) would like to welcome Jacob and Catherine.

***

The arrival of Aurora and Joel's little one is a little more bittersweet. Aurora is happier than ever to add another baby to their family, though she wishes Joel could be here to meet her. Instead, Aurora's mom, and her good friend Clarice attend the birth, while Zach spends the morning with his grandpa Brady.

Aurora thinks her mother could stand to look a little less excited about meeting this new grandbaby. And Clarice could stand to calm down a little, having been through this twice herself already.

Though Clarice doesn't calm down, and Meadow still can't contain her excitement. And in her reserved state, she just doesn't know about this doctor, who looks so very young! Meadow says, "Are you sure you're licensed, honey?"

Rebecca makes her debut at almost eight in the morning. Jodie checks her out and brings her over to meet her mommy. She has blonde hair and brown eyes like her great grandmother Rebecca Harris whom she was named for.

Joel's parents stop by a little later that afternoon to meet the baby. Grandpa Tad was just never very comfortable with the really little ones, so he entertains himself with a video game for now, at least until she gets a little bigger.

And Zach is most excited of all to meet his brand new baby sister, who he's been wishing for for a really, really long time!

Aurora and Joel Harris, and big brother Zach (and all of the Harris and Lind families) would like to welcome baby Rebecca!

*******

notes: it feels like forever since I had any new babies :)

Okay, so maybe I have a bit of a crush on Ingrid Michaelson right now, so if that's why one of my babies is named Ingrid, then so be it, lol!

Amy is one of my playable townie girls, by the way, and she's most well known for deflowering herself in a photobooth at her junior prom ;)

She's a senior at Lakeside Heights High School this year, and rather than find her a "foster family," I decided that she might like to be a nanny for a year, and earn a little money for college. And the Thompsons need the help anyway.

Adam thinks he likes this... He'd like to have ten of the little buggers! Maybe we might wonder how Heather likes being a baby factory?

Sorry Adam, request declined! Why can't they ever want like, three babies, or something? Seriously!

This is Joel's grandmother, Rebecca Harris. And yay, I can't believe little Rebecca was born with blonde hair and brown eyes! How cool is that? And what are the chances?

But I guess both of them might have blonde recessive genes, Joel from his grandmother, and Aurora from Meadow. But awww, that makes me stupidly happy, lol!

Joel picked her name, by the way, back in this story. I didn't know if they'd have a girl then, of course, but I hoped ;)

And note to Tosha: grandmothers aren't supposed to play favorites!

Lucy is by far and forever her favorite grandchild! Those wants, "talk to Lucy" and "invite Lucy over" are ALWAYS there! No matter what lot she's on!

Also, 20 grandbabies is declined! She has 6 now though, not too bad. Not that I even understand why she wants 20 grandbabies when the only one she cares about is Lucy! :)

  1. ROFL at teh fav. gradnchild. I have a few sims who have favorite children and grandchildren. I think it's cute. Since I think a few of us are guilty of it. *shhh, don't tell my kids* But I am too. Though I try my best not to show it. LOL

I enjoyed the baby update. And it does seems as if it's been a long time since you've had a mini baby boom. :)

  2. Wow, LOTS of babies! I love that little Rebecca is blonde. Yay for recessive genes lol! And geez, those family/knowledge sims really love babies. Will they be sending postcards of baby pictures to Joel in space? Hmm...well I guess you can't really send mail to space, silly question haha. And Tosha's closeness with Lucy is really cute, but it's kind of sad how close her life meter is getting to the end...=[

  3. I love to see how Grandmother Tosha really adores her grandchild, Lucy. Perhaps maybe because Lucy is just too sweet. And her fear to become a witch, ROFL! Wow, Heather must prepare herself then. Has Adam ever talk about this with her? I am pretty sure, she is going to be a little bit shock there. I love how you always get pictures of birth with whole family around the mommy.

  4. I love how genetics can go in sims 2, like with little Rebecca and her blond hair and brown eyes! It makes the game so much more interesting some times!

Congrats on the newest additions to Lakeside Heights!

  5. So many lovely little sim babies, will be intresting to see what they like when they grow up and what sort of drama will they add to lakeside Heights

  6. Riverdale, maybe you're right - I only have one so far so I guess he's kind of my favorite by default ;)

Non-Anon, there's e-mail in space, isn't there? Well, if not, then there is in 2083, lol! So we'll send his pictures in e-mail ;)

You guys have been kind of spared in the elder deaths around here. My last elder to die happened just before I started this blog, and then I had a ten year gap in their ages.

M.J., yeah, I think it's best Adam keeps that thought to himself, lol! Heather is Knowledge/Fortune, and three kids is much more than I usually get out of that combination, so he should consider himself lucky ;)

Tanja, thanks! That was a fun surprise!

    Speechless, thanks! :)

  7. LOL! TWENTY Grandkids? That's hilarious. And she gets that after only having six? That seems like a bit of a leap.

Aww... babies! I love it too when recessive genes are expressed like that.

And Jodie's been busy! Poor woman. I'm tired for her after seeing that. Do you just bring her over when it's close to their birth time?

  8. It is so much fun to see all the families and extended families welcoming their new babies. Recently a baby in Simdale Valley that I expected to have dark skin was born with light skin, blonde hair and blue eyes. But I haven't written that update yet...

  9. Wow, baby boom! It's always fun seeing how the babies turn out... I look forward to each age transition with my sims, too, just to see if I can see any more resemblance to parents or grandparents... like in real life, some of my families seem to have traits that show in every generation, and some don't seem very alike at all.

I let one sim fulfill the 20 grandkids want... we were up to about 16 so, some of his kids wanted more, so I thought, what the hell, just go for it :) The funny thing was, 20 actually turned out to be 20 and 21 - I was worried that he'd roll a want for 30 or something after that, but he didn't.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Yay, welcome new babies!

The Thompson Twins! What was that song they had? "Hold Me Now"? LOL.

I was going to ask if you named Ingrid after Ingrid Michaelson. I can't tell you how many of my Sims are named after musicians. My Moretti family got their surname because I think the drummer from the Strokes is hot. ;)

Isn't it always the guy who rolls the 10 babies want?! The 20 grandchildren want doesn't seem all that common in my game but right now I have at least 3 grandparents who are hoping for 20!

I love when my Sims play favourites, even though I'd probably find it awful in real life if it was obvious! It's cute that Tosha is so close to Lucy. I think Lucy would be my favourite granddaughter too. ;)

And my gosh, you lock fears! You're so cruel, Laura!

    ReplyDelete
  11. I want to hear about Leila, and Fiona the witch! LOL

My computer just works for the Stories games, so I don't know how the vampire/witch/whatever thing works in the Sims 2. Fiona's story has got me really curious about all of that.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Lunar, yeah, either they want one grandchild or twenty, lol! I've never seen anything in between.

Jodie really did look very tired - the poor girl, I've got her busy! Her eyes seemed unusually drowsy, especially for Charlotte's babies.

Francesca, I've only recently started inviting the families over to meet the babies, but it is fun! I love any chance to get all their families back together :)

Blackcat, oh wow, so you actually went for it? Do all of those grandkids still live in the neighborhood?

I think 8 is the most any of my Sims ever had - Kent Deppiesse, and I don't think he actually lived to see any of them born, lol! Most of my grandparents end up with 5 or 6, because I just can't deal with the population growth otherwise.

Carla, lol, it IS always the guy, isn't it? They don't have to do any of the hard work, lol!

I guess I did lock that. I haven't even played their household in so long, I can't even remember why, lol! To be honest though, I get kind of annoyed if they've just lost a loved one and the fear wasn't there to be fulfilled, and then they're still in platinum aspiration like they didn't even care, lol!

zsc, oh no, lol! Fiona will be a part of the Hathe update, which is coming up pretty soon, and Leila is a couple stories after that.

I have to say though, you probably won't find out much about witches from my game, since I'll be sticking to realism and such for the sake of the story. You should check out Mao's Boreal Springs, because she's got a super-cool witch in her story :)

  13. Yay for genetics! On a legacy that I did long, long time ago, twin girls were born third gen: one was a red-head (from the first gen heir grandma) and the other was a blond (their mom, second gen), both with green eyes. Mind you that the dominant genes were black hair and brown eyes!
btw, i thought the staged shot of the first birth was awesome! It really does look like Jodie is kneeling down and catching the baby coming out.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Are mixed twins common in TS2? They're very hard to get in TS3 and involve chicanery with doctors and fruit...

    ReplyDelete
  15. Laurel, thanks, about that shot. I'm trying to ignore the whole Sim spinning around and a baby magically appears, lol!

I haven't seen much of my recessive genetics, so this was a neat surprise... though I have to admit, I was *hoping* Charlotte and Paul might get a redhead. I haven't had a playable born-in-game redhead since Amelia. (Only have three in the history of the neighborhood - Claire, Brooke, and Amelia.)

Ah well, better get Piper breeding! I'm gonna get me another playable born-in-game redhead, dammit, lol! Most of my Deppiesse kids could have recessive red hair as well, so it might be interesting to see how their kids might turn out.

Rad, actually, up until these births, mixed gender twins weren't very common for me. In the whole history of the neighborhood, and 6 sets of twins, the only ones I've had were Jeremy and Abby (who are currently 68), and Brooke and Cabe (currently 42). So it's been a long time!

But now I have 4 mixed sets out of 8, I guess that's not so uncommon anymore ;)

Identical twins are much, much more rare, at least in Sims 2, and I don't think they're even really possible, since the Sim generator randomizes again after each birth. So any identicals born would just be a fluke, or the result of their parents not having very varied genetics.

I've never had any true identicals - Beau and Tyler Jackson are very close, but I can see their differences.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Oh, duh, and I completely forgot Patrick Nova and Riley Hathe (currently 32), another mixed gender set. I always forget that they're twins because they couldn't be more different, lol!

So that's 5 mixed gender sets out of 9, which would break the tie for more common than same gender sets. How about that? :)

  17. I absolutely loved the scene of Heather giving birth on the floor! This added a nice touch to the story. Happy birthday to all the new simmies!

  18. I just thought of something - Orlando Centowski was the sim in my hood with the 20 grandchild want fulfilled, so its kind of funny to write about it on the bottom of the post where his counterpart in your hood gets his first grandchildren. A few of the 20 are unplayable or moved away, but most of them still live in my hood. They range in age from child to adult, as their parents were also spread apart in age... I think probably everyone in my hood is related to this family somehow! :)

Overall I don't usually let my sims have more than one or two kids now (Orlando had 6, before I even considered overpopulation), but I also like playing large families so there's usually at least one big family with kids in my hood at any given time.

One other thing that is happening right now, is that my first generation is dying off alarmingly fast, and my second generation are becoming/are already elders. Last round people had babies but my population dropped by one! That gives me a little leeway, although I can't understand this thing I read with some players, where its like they can't wait to get rid of their elders... I've been with these guys so long and I hate it when they die!

That thing with sims staying happy because they didn't have the family death fear really annoys me too, and even more so with permanant platinum sims who just aren't bothered by anything! If I think an event is something that would realistically make the person really unhappy, I use insim to manually drop their meter down to red and lock it there (have to lock it or the slightest positive event makes them plat again). If I'm unhppy to loose my elders, then they darn well can be too! :)

This way they roll wants that suit their unhappy state, and how soon I unlock it depends on the their wants - if they're all easy things to achieve then they get over the event fairly quickly, but if they only roll difficult or impossible wants (things like ressurecting people are impossible in my 'realistic' hood) then I have a random roll similar to your depression one, and maybe bigger stuff happens.

  19. Lots of babies!! Yeah! It's definitely few and far between with babies being born. And poor Joel missing the birth of his daughter, though they knew this of course. That story, btw, is still in my mind, perfectly clear, so to speak, it really stuck with me.

Likewise, I was playing my restaurant lot awhile ago and I remembered Tosha loving Lucy so much. So it's funny to see her wants and see how she still favors Lucy.

I love that Rebecca has her grandmother's blonde hair too! That'd make me pretty excited.

As for Ingrid. It's on my baby name list I keep for future babies, cause I'll admit it, I have a little crush on her too! Her music is almost always playing at my house.

  20. Aili, thank you! :)

Blackcat, wow, your hood always sounds amazing! I can't wait to see you start blogging about it! And ugh, yes, I hate perma-plat Sims! I wonder if anyone's found a way to remove that? Maybe in SimPe? I might have a poke around in there and see what I find...

I'm especially annoyed about Tyler, because I like his LTW the way it is (10 first dates), and I want him to fulfill it because I think it would suit his story well, but dammit, he's only 20!!! I don't want him perma-plat for the rest of his life, lol!

I know what you mean, about the elders dying - I'm going to sob and sob when I start losing mine again :(

Maisie, awww, thanks about the story! That one was quite special to me too :)

And lol, yes, the restaurant, but also don't forget that Tosha stopped by to take pictures as they were getting ready for prom! (Okay, so that was just a very convenient walk-by, but I'm totally not making this up, lol!)

Yay, heart-farts for Ingrid Michaelson :)

  21. Aw, lots of new babies! I loved the picture of Heather's birth, great setup with the poses. :D It's cute to see the whole Centowski family there to see the first grandbabies! And I'm sad that Joel couldn't be there to see Rebecca, but at least Aurora had the rest of her family and friends there for her. :)

You know, I thought for sure I had more twins than I apparently do, but it seems that I only have 5 sets. 1 set of girls, 1 girl/boy set, and 3 sets of boys, so my hood apparently leans more toward boy twins, lol. If I count in the unplayables, there's another set of twin boys.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Thanks, Laura... I am quite proud of my hood, but not so sure my writing can do it justice... we will see... soon! (nervous :) ).

I would be sooo grateful if you found a way to remove perma-plat! Its probably my #1 annoyance in the game and I wish it was optional or something. I've searched many times and can't find a hack or anything to remove it permanently - maybe I'm in a minority in wanting such a thing? :)

One thing I have found out that might be useful, is that perma-plat from fulfilling a ltw is different from the game/program pov to perma-plat from filling the meter-thing that came with ?freetime - you would probably have to do different things to remove the different types, if that makes sense.

SimPe actually scares me! :) I don't use it for much more than backing up my hood. Used to use it for a few other minor changes but I've found in-game hacks (like insim or Sim Blender) to do those things now so I rarely use it.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Shana, thanks! Heather's birth was actually really simple to stage, lol! She and Adam are in different "hang out" poses, and Jodie is just picking up the baby off the floor ;)

I didn't list my genders, but my hood definitely leans toward boy twins too! Delphie and Dakota are my only girl/girl set in this hood, and maybe only one of two girl/girl sets as far back as I can remember playing the game! What's up with that? lol!

Blackcat, ah-ha! Google is my friend! I found something to try! :)

SemiPermaPlat by Hook: which gives perma-plat Sims back their aspiration decay, but at a slower rate than before they reached perma-plat.

I haven't tested this yet, but if it works as advertised, then I'll be a happy camper :)

    ReplyDelete
  24. Yes!!! Thank you, and based on a very quick test, it appears to work! :)

AND I've googled this problem before... no idea why I didn't find this but so glad you found it now!

I've got one guy I'm playing at the moment locked in red for the reasons I mentioned above. His wife is also perma-plat, both through fulfilling ltws. I backed up the hood, put the hack in, loaded the house and took his aspiration lock off. At the same time, I knocked the wife's meter down to gold to see what happened. I sent him off to fulfill a small want (skill point).

When the hour changed, her meter went down a little. Meanwhile he got the skill point and his meter went to green.. yaayy!! Previously any aspiration gain would have made him perma-plat again - so it works. :)

Haven't tried it on sims who gained perma-plat through the meter rather than a ltw, but I hope it works for them because, as I play by trying to achieve their wants, some of my sims fill that meter at way too young an age.

I can go with the idea of a slower decay - fulfilling a person's goals probably would give them a more positive outlook on life.

Yay, you've made my day (week/month/every future gameplay session :) ) now!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Blackcat, I'm pretty excited about it too! I just did my own quick test, on a Sim who was perma-plat through both LTW and the freetime meter, and it worked! Yay!

That's how I think I'll interpret it too, a more positive outlook on life :)

I haven't had anyone do the "lifetime happiness" from the bookcase yet, so I wouldn't be able to test if it works for that. Though now that my Sims won't be eternally stuck in perma-plat, I might actually let them study it!

    ReplyDelete
  26. I love the name Ingrid. When I was younger and I got through the top five names I wanted if I had daugthers Ingrid would be number six. Ironically both of my daghters have names that weren't even like in my top twenty.

Lots of twins this round! I love sim twins. They're a total pain but since I'm a mother of twins then by default I love them.

Sim genetics are a crazy, crazy thing. So are human genetics.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I love new babies!

Wow, I'm so happy you selected Rebecca and Catherine, some of my all time favorite baby names!!!

I can't wait to see what they're like as toddlers and kids. And I see Lainy is a child now?!?!? they grow up so fast!

I like when your extended families. It's so realistic, everyone cooing over a newborn!

And nice to hear about what Amy Jones is doing.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Victoria, so funny how that works out! I never even considered my son's name (Dylan) until I was pregnant with him. Wow, I can't imagine having twins in RL, Sim twins are enough hard work for me! :)

Billy, yup, sneak peek of Laney (she's four now). You'll see more of her in the school update. I always liked Rebecca, so I wanted to keep that in their family. And Catherine was my grandmother's name :)

    ReplyDelete
  29. I love it, she's going into labour and he's playing the violin in the background. That's certainly one way to deal with a birth.

  30. Carnaxa, lol, good thing he's good at it, or it could have been really annoying ;)
