I don't want a job either

April 2078, Sheldon and Alana Fortney are 45, Melissa is 9.

Melissa says, "Mom, I don't think I want a job when I grow up."

Alana says, "I don't blame you, Kiddo." Her mother thinks she's joking, but she isn't. Not really.

The Fortney family lives in the Hazel Park neighborhood of Lakeside Heights, and uncle Toby and aunt April live right across the street, and the whole family still stops over, as freely and as often as ever.

Melissa's best friend in the whole world is her cousin Lucy. Lucy is going to junior high next year, and Melissa is a little sad about that. She wonders if they'll still play together, or if Lucy will want to hang out with her older friends.

Photobucket
Lucy doesn't want a job either when she grows up. It was funny at first, but Alana thinks these girls might be in for a rude awakening some day.

It isn't long in the day, any day of the week now that he's retired, before Grandpa Tad stops over too. I'm telling you, these people can't leave each other alone!

Alana and Toby know that their parents are looking forward to enjoying their retirement. They're 68 this year, and just put their little condo on the market and plan to move into Seaside Woods retirement village as soon as it sells. They haven't said yet who they'll leave the antique shop to.

Alana has certainly never been the work-motivated one of the three. She already suspects it will be Toby - they would probably consider Joel, but he and Aurora tend to keep their distance from the family as much as they can.

Sarah listens in as the grown-ups talk. Such a serious little girl!

The Hazel Park neighborhood is hidden just behind Shadow Woods Metropark, and Melissa really really wants to go hiking, but her mom says she needs to learn a little more about nature first. She wonders what she can find out about hiking in the gardening section?

Photobucket
She can't go hiking, but her parents do walk with her over to the metropark.

Photobucket
And while Melissa plays some darts, talking about soccer with a new girl she's just met...

Photobucket
Alana and Sheldon slip into a photo booth, and I don't think they have pictures in mind.

Photobucket
Oh, the poor, poor shop girl! Well, at least it got Alana one more dream date, because you know you have to keep the marriage alive!

Photobucket
Melissa gets a game of chess with her dad before they leave.

Not too much going on with the Fortney family this year. As much as Sheldon loves to clean (and surprisingly, for a pleasure Sim, he does!), he decides to treat himself to a new dishwasher and trash compactor in the kitchen.

notes: I've never had a family that pestered each other as much as the Harris family does. The three households that live in Lakeside Heights CONSTANTLY drop by each other's houses (Joel and Aurora are in Lake City). Is that because so many of them are family Sims? Or maybe because they're outgoing? I don't know, I guess they just really like each other, lol.

  1. It's probably a combination of proximity and being outgoing, but it's still cute! I love it when families don't leave one another alone.

Haha, and only in The Sims 2 is public woohoo with your children in range acceptable. ;)

  2. mao, it is cute. It definitely gives this family character. And lol, Sheldon was the one who once checked out his sister-in-law in front of her husband and the whole family, so I expect it from him ;)

  3. I hated it when my sims didn't want jobs, or quit their jobs. Luckily these two are still young.

By the way, I like reading the comments as much as anything else. It's just so awesome when I look at the dates. Hell, what was I doing on September, 15th 2008? :)

  4. Moondaisy, I'm really glad you're enjoying the comments! That's probably half the experience in itself, lol! I've got an amazing bunch of readers, who are easily just as witty and clever and dedicated to this as I am, which makes this even more fun! :)

Also, ever since I found this story I've been reading it every day. It's really interesting.

  7. Great story and photos of this Fortney/Harris family. Sims are such a trip, aren't they, with the things they do and say in their bubbles! Gad, I miss my games so much! Hopefully I'll have a suitable Windows computer again sometime next year so I can play again. :-D
