cold season strikes with a vengeance

September 2077, Toby and April Harris are 39, Lucy is 11, Sarah is 9, Samuel is 6. Tad and Tosha Harris are 68.

It's been ten years since April didn't have a child at home to look after, and now with Samuel in school, she doesn't really know what to do with her days. After she gets the kitchen cleaned, the toilets unclogged (she's got a sloppy family!), and the dishes done, it's just her, a cup of coffee, and Pepper. Little does she know that this month is going to keep her pretty busy!

Toby brings a cold home from work. He's hoping this doesn't keep him down too long, because he and April have been looking forward to taking their ten-year delayed honeymoon at the end of the month. They also have their tenth anniversary portrait to pick up from Centowski's, but money's been tight recently with buying all the kids new school clothes.

Toby's just hanging out with a book, trying to get better, and April wakes up and says, "I don't feel so good..." Now she's got the cold too.

Lucy is proving to be a very ambitious and high-achieving little girl in her fifth grade year. She's looking forward to starting junior high next year.

Photobucket
She's also a very friendly girl and has people calling for her at all hours of the day. She is good friends with her cousin Melissa, who is one year younger than she is.

Tad and Tosha
are still healthy and active at 68, and have a little condo just near the Lakeside Heights city center. They often walk through town and spend some money in the local shops.

As a gift to Toby and April, Tosha picks up their anniversary portrait for them. She also bought out a bunch of other vases and plates and tea sets to give as gifts. The rare commodities business has been profitable lately, and they have quite a bit of spendable income now that their kids are grown.

Photobucket
And they like to go bowling, because they're retired and they can!

Photobucket
They also like to have the family over often. As you can see, their children have grown up to have successful and loving marriages. They take that as a sign that they've done a good job. Family makeout time! April says, "Oh, my eyes! I can't watch!"

Toby, having just gotten over his cold, and after having given it to April, just got another one back from Samuel. They didn't even know he was sick, much less how sick he was, and he'd been playing in the water wiggler all afternoon. His cold has turned into a bad case of pneumonia.

Photobucket
A very very bad case of pneumonia!

Photobucket
But death is no match for a little boy's mommy!

Photobucket
So Toby, April, and Samuel are quarantined to bed - this family needs to get healthy!

Photobucket
Lucy and Sarah somehow managed to stay healthy though, and are left to their own devices. They have chips and cookies for dinner in their bathing suits...

Photobucket
Play chess in their pajamas...

Photobucket
And sell lemonade out in front of the house...

Photobucket
And for being cooped up inside the house most of the month, once April is finally healthy, she takes the girls out to the rec center to have some fun!

Photobucket
It takes Samuel almost the whole month to recover from his bout with pneumonia, and once he does, he has a lot of school work to catch up on. Tosha dropped off their wedding portrait and it looks pretty good. As for the honeymoon, maybe they'll try again next year, not during cold and flu season. And honestly, they couldn't even afford it anyway, with Toby sick and missing work. What's one more year when they've waited ten already?

Lucy, while her little brother is in grave danger, decides to complain that she's bored! LOL, Sims!

note: I am using a realistic sickness mod (make sure you grab the Pioupiou version that I've linked to on page three), which makes all Sim illnesses more extreme and actually deadly, since you know it's nearly impossible that they would die of illness per game default. With this mod, you have to take care of them, or they will die!

  1. Wow! I've never had a child accidentally die. And I've certainly never had an accidental illness death, very cool (well, sort of ;)).

I loved that first picture, hehe.

  2. Great update! BTW-I LOVE the new banner with the farm scene, it's amazing!

  3. Mao - I forgot to mention that I have a realistic sickness mod (i'll edit it into the post). Because you're right, it's almost impossible to have an illness death before they get better - so this mod makes it so you actually have to look after them when they're sick, or they will die! Scary, but more fun! ;)

Apple - Thanks! Farm scene for the fall season. That's the Watts family, and you guys will see them very soon.

  4. Oh, wow! I was so scared for poor Samuel! I recently put that same sickness hack in my Medieval hood but no one has gotten sick yet. Possibly this is because no one has a Maxis job (no germs from co-workers) and I make them keep their little hovels very clean. I'm curious - how did this family contract their illness?

  5. Never mind me. I read the update again and see that Toby caught the cold at work. Jeez, Bev, learn to read. ;-)

  6. Your so nice to your sims. You let them plead with death. I have made myself follow a no interfering with death rule starting a couple of rounds ago.

I was wondering who that realistic illness mod worked. I might have to add it to my list of mods that I need to try out.

  7. beverly - lol, yes, from work :) That hack can be pretty deadly if you're not paying attention.

monique - I know, I'm a softy! He's just a kid though, he just started kindergarten this year! I couldn't bear to let him go without letting his mom try. I do have a no "quitting without saving" policy though.

  8. Oh! That picture of April fighting for her little boy is just perfect. I know she's doing that 'yeah, I won' gesture, but it looks like she is willing to punch Grimmy! :)

  9. Moondaisy, you're right, it does look like she's ready to punch him!
