elections 2083!

December 6, 2083 - Election Day. Presented by Clarice Miller of the Lake County Courier.

Clarice Miller: We bring you this broadcast live from County Hall, in Lake City. Welcome, and I'm happy to bring you coverage of the 2083 Elections Press Conference.

The winners of these positions will hold office from January 2084 to January 2088. Thank you for joining me today, and let's get started with our first discussion.

*** Governor of State ***

Clarice: for the office of Governor of the State, we'll hear from incumbent, Madison Riley, and her opponent, Ally Shultz.

In the back row: "Hi Mom," Mariah calls out. "Good luck!"

"We had a prosperous and accomplished four years," Madison says.

"We had four years of frivolous spending!" Ally says.

"A large portion of the state's budget went to the local military," Madison says. "This war is something we never could have anticipated. There was a devastating school fire we couldn't have anticipated. The transportation project was desperately needed, and already in the works. But I'd like you to draw your attention to the beautiful new marina, completed last summer. And I'm very sorry to say we're ending this term on a defecit."

"She's ending her first term on a monumental deficit," Ally says. "I think I could bring accountability to this office. She's like a teenage girl in the mall with a charge card!"

"I'm just guiding my officials to respond as best we know how, during this unprecedented global threat."

Madison raises her hand to her heart. "I have a daughter fighting in this war," she says.

Everyone stands up and claps.

Ally rolls her eyes.

Madison adds, with a smile, "And did you see all the pretty trains?"

Madison and Ally begin to collect their things and move off stage.

Berjes says, "Oooh, is it me now?"

*** Head of Health Services ***

Clarice: Jodie Larson dropped out of contention for Head of Health Services late this weekend, citing "personal reasons." Incumbent, Dr. Berjes Monif, will accept the position for another four years.

"First," Berjes says, with a beaming smile. "I'd like to express my deepest respects to my opponent, and I look forward to a very pleasant working relationship with her. We have a lot of wonderful projects in the works, including a brand new medical facility in Lakeside Heights due to open this spring. I am pleased to have the opportunity to serve the health of this fine county for another four years."

Mariah whispers to her husband, "You know she slept with him? I bet the two of them rigged this, so he wouldn't have to run against anyone."

Micah says, "No way."

George McCarthy, who is sitting two rows ahead of them, overhears this and wonders if he might want to start some political scandal gossip?

Hazel says. "Wait, are we supposed to clap?"

Hazel claps for her dad anyway.

Micah says, "Hey babe, you think maybe pork chops for dinner? Mmmm, pork."

Mariah couldn't be more bored, she's so glad she didn't go into politics.

Drew is actually trying to position his mirror to reflect off the window behind him so he can see the back of his head.

Townie girl next to him says, OMG, is this guy for serious???

*** President of the Lake County Board of Education ***

Clarice: At the retirement of our current Board President, Meadow Lind, the position is left wide open, with only one contender. So you'll now hear from the new President of the Lake County Board of Education, Alice Nova.

"Thank you for accepting me as your new Board President," Alice says. "I look forward to serving the children of this fine county, and bringing our schools to their highest order. The university will get a new Humanities department, and the brand new Lakeside Heights Public Schools complex is slated for completion this summer."

*** CFO of the Lake County Treasury ***

Clarice: As Brady Lind retires this fall, the position of CFO of the Lake County Treasury is left wide open. You'll now hear from the candidates, Amelia Bradshaw and Aurora Miguel.

Cheering breaks out from the back row.

"Whoo, go Mom!" Beau shouts.

"Go Mom!" April shouts. "Kick some booty!"

"I love you, Honey Bear," Adrian yells.

George thinks he might have a busted ear drum.

Amelia says, "With the encouragement and endorsement of my mentor, and your current CFO, Brady Lind, I would love to serve this county as Head of Treasury."

Aurora says, "I have a strong background in business and especially the successful handling of large sums of money. I feel confident I could manage this county's funds in a responsible manner."

But then Amelia freezes in front of the crowd, blunders her question, and as Aurora can clearly see the girl is having a bad day, she politely answers it and they carry on.

*** Lake County Court Justice ***

Clarice: for the office of Lake County Court Justice, we'll now hear from your incumbent, Claire Bradshaw, and her opponent, George McCarthy.

Claire says, "I have been serving the law and justice of this state for nearly thirty years."

Claire says, "As your current Lake County Court Justice, I stand for honesty and truth, and the truth is, my opponent cannot supply the details of his law school degree."

"I have a law school degree," George says. "I got it online. It's perfectly valid."

Claire says, "My opponent stems from personal injury law."

George says, "I stand for the people! Who have been injured through no fault of their own. They deserve compensation!"

*** Chief of Police, Lake County Police Department ***

Clarice: The office of Chief of Police is uncontended, and Chief Micah Phoenix will graciously accept another four years.

"Thank you," Micah says. "We've done four years of great work keeping Lake City and its suburbs safe, including keeping guns and drugs off all those pretty new trains. I look forward to keeping the county safe for another wonderful four years."

*** Head of Defense ***

Clarice: And finally, we have video from General Cabe Deppiesse, who will accept another four years in his position as the State's Head of Defense.
"I'd like to thank you all for accepting another four years of my term," Cabe says. "We are making great strides out here, and expect to make our first contact with great intelligence and safety. I have appointed officials to monitor your safety on a local level, and I can assure you we're doing the best we can out here to keep you all safe back home."

Clarice: Thank you for joining me this afternoon. You'll find your candidates background information and qualification statistics posted on the county website. And you may begin voting immediately.

  1. It's great to see a political post set out like this. I did one similar to this and I think they're more creative and more enjoyable to read than an informative style of post.

As much as I like some candidates I'm going to try be sensible and vote for the one who could do the job better. After all, I don't think we'd want Lakeside Heights going bust, lol!

Wow, look at me talking like it's an actual election!

  2. I am absolutely laughing out loud and screaming!!! From 'hi Mom' to what's for dinner, who cares, the people who do care REALLY REALLY care and everybody else is wondering how long they have to be there and is there anything interesting going on.

So. It's a choice between people with shiny things they can't pay for and people who are sort of weird and people who are going to make it SAFE.

Completely adore this!! Enchanted and laughing out loud and crying at the same time because it is so damned real.

    and I'll vote...

  3. I agree with Shake. As much as I like two of the Sims running for the elections, I think the other Sims running for the same positions will do better.

  4. Shake, thanks, glad it was enjoyed! I definitely had more fun writing it than I would an info-style post ;)

Beth, thank you! I know, maybe too real? I finished posting it, and looking back, I think I might have just written my first political satire, lol! Someday when I'm older and much wiser, maybe I'll write some real political satire. But for now, I'm just happy to amuse! :D

Flit, that's the fun of it - you can vote for whoever you want, for whatever reason you want!!! Long live democracy, lol!

(Whoa, let's not get too political here!)

    Thanks for voting everyone!

  5. LOL, I love it! Sim political satire! Madison using the "my daughter is in this war" line was particularly timely, I think!

Where have we seen Ally before? I seem to recognise the name but can't think where she's appeared before.

  6. I love April shouting "go mom!"

Hmm, I'm tempted to vote for Ally and Amelia considering that they both slept with Alon and that would be some interesting tension, especially in light of the Drew episode.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Carla, thanks! :) Ally is probably most well know as the woman Alon left Amelia for, lol!

Apple, OMG, evil, lol! And considering if they both won, Ally would then be governor, and Amelia would have to report to her for four years, I think that would probably just about be soul-destroying. Hadn't thought of that. Ouch!

  8. I really like this form of seeing the candidates. Much more fun than voting in my RL current elections, that's for sure!

  9. I like how you set this post. It was really entertaining.

Drew primping made me laugh and I also enjoyed the way the Jacksons support Aurora.

  10. I'm on Team Amelia. She needs a confidence booster like this!

  11. This was so much fun! I love the back-bitey tone of some of the speeches. The smearing gossip was very realistic...after the whole holiday party incident, Jodie's reputation is in tatters. It's pretty nifty how that incident affected not one, but two different campaigns...

  12. Very enjoyable post! I already voted before I read, since I had made up my mind on who I want to stay and who I want to see in a new position. Can't wait for the results.

  13. Oh, duh! I even read that update again recently. I remember Ally now.

She wasn't in your resident database (that I could see, anyway), so I was completely confused!

    ReplyDelete
  14. You had mentioned before that April calls Aurora 'Mom,' but we had never seen it in action before. I found that really funny!

I was tempted to vote for Ally for governor, seeing as she seems perfectly qualified. But seeing as there's a war going on, Lake County needs someone who knows what they're doing.

George McCarthy reminds me a lot of those lawyers that advertise on television and that are always saying that you're probably entitled to a large cash settlement. Not exactly someone to whom I'd want to entrust the justice system.

  15. Kiri, I know, don't you wish elections were this fun in real life? lol!

miss-essa, thanks! Glad you enjoyed it! Drew primping never ceases to crack me up, lol! :)

Zoe, as long as Ally doesn't win too, lol! But it doesn't look like she will at this point, so it's all good!

Rachel, yes, lol! Jodie isn't having the best time right now. Poor girl!

Riverdale, glad you enjoyed it! :)

Carla, oh no, I guess I took her out at some point, lol! Oops! I'll have to add her back in.

Katherine, yes, I'm glad you said that about George, lol! I'm so very amused (and terrified?) that people are *actually* voting for him!!! LOL!

  16. I think it's clear who'll be winning from looking at the votes. Still I have to comment on this entry. I wish real political debates were this entertaining, lol. (Okay, I probably don't, still, this was too much fun to read!)

    ReplyDelete
  17. Lunar, oh, they could probably stand to make them a little more entertaining for us. Maybe without people like George McCarthy running, lol!

  18. Laura, I was wondering how you have your elders have hair that is not the default Maxis gray. I love the variety of your elders' hair, like Orlando Centowski's gray-brown hair and Micah Phoenix's gray-black hair.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Sarah, I make the hair myself in Bodyshop. It's quite easy to do, if you have any photo-editing program that works in layers - you just lay the adult stage colored texture over the gray texture, then erase away some streaks to let the gray show through. You can also change the opacity of the colored layer so that some of the gray shows through uniformly.

I think I promised I'd upload some of those at one point, but then I got busy with stuff and forgot, lol! I'll add it to my list of things to do ;)
