Dear Anonymous,
Thank you for your concern, and I can assure you my life is just fine. No need to worry.
My son is growing up so fast, and he's really adorable. He says the funniest things sometimes. Just this morning, in fact, I was opening the windows after dropping off hubby at work (Yes, I'm married, he does well for himself, very handsome, and intelligent to boot! I'm a lucky girl!)... so I was opening the windows of the sunroom out onto the forest - I just love looking out onto the forest in the morning, don't you, with the dew sparkling on blades of grass, birds chirping in the trees, and the deer running by? No joke, we really do have deer. Do you see deer where you live? Sorry, I digress... So I was opening the window, and I pulled a little too hard - oops, it happens - so the blinds come flying off the wall and crashing down on my head! It's okay, I didn't get hurt. But my son, he says, "Mommy, you have to be careful, you could get hurt and ruined." (He's three, by the way, such a great age.) And I'm like, Awww!!! How sweet is that???
My professional life has been better. I'm kind of in a slump right now, but you know, we all find ourselves there sometimes. Oh, wait, how old are you? Well, anyway, when you grow up, you might have this thing called a career - and it's not like a job, exactly, not like how you sling burgers at McDonalds after school. It's like, what you want to do with your life. Well, I know where I'm headed anyway, it's just a matter of getting there.
So my life is fine. It's been better, but it's not bad. It's the only one I've got.
But you! You must have a great life. You must be so cool, and have so many friends, and get invited to the greatest parties. You get invited to great parties, don't you? I just know it! And I bet you have to take your laptop with you everywhere, even to these really great parties, so you can browse through backlogs of old blog entries from last year, to post anonymous comments about what kind of lives people have.
Wow, you're so cool! Keep on winning, dude! Reach for the stars, don't do drugs, stay in school. You're going to go far, I just know it!
Hahahahaha, Laura, I love your sense of humor. Sometimes it's easy to forget that you also go toe-to-toe over at MATY. People are so retarded.
ReplyDeleteI'm just as angry, too, and actually, yeah, I don't really have much of a life. If I can't find anywhere else, I will end up paying. I can't risk my pretty story images. I worked too hard on them. :(
You know, that one simple comment totally pissed me off. I don't think it's funny at all. In fact, I think it's pretty pathetic that people feel that they have to be rude to others. It's obvious they don't understand the enjoyment that we all get out of simming, but what makes my brain hurt is why was that person reading your blog in the first place? If they don't like the sims, why read a sims blog?! And why voice their ignorant and juvenile opinion? Just to hurt your feelings?
ReplyDeleteI think the real problem is jealousy. I think they wish they were as talented and awesome-rrific as you and your Lakeside Heights sims are. I think they go to sleep at night and dream about being as amazing as you are, Laura. They probably even pee their pants in excitement every time you post another wonderful update.
Whew, sorry to be so catty..but that just really grinds my gears (Family Guy reference ftw!). Rude people like that really make me angry. Good for you for calling them out and making them look like a total fool.
First of all, lol @ mandie and the family guy reference (I have every season that's out on dvd lol). I can't believe that someone would take time out of their life to make a comment about someone else not having one......what does that say about them? Everyone has things that they enjoy doing in their spare time (my brother is addicted to his xbox 360 and online gaming!) and it's their time to use as they see fit. Live and let live! Hey, some people think cucumbers taste better pickled (Chappelle Show ref)! Laura, I've only recently started following your blog and can appreciate the time it takes to run a hood as successful as Lakeside Heights......who cares what anonymous thinks!
ReplyDeleteI just have to say: the nerve of someone to judge somebody else without even knowing that person!!
ReplyDeleteIt takes time to run a hood properly, I spend a lot of time doing it myself, and to be honest I really love doing that, and I can imagine that others love it too.
I can't believe that that person doens't have something he/she loves doing, and I can't believe that this person just goes around reading a blog, and leaving a comment, without even having the nerve do do it under their own name!
Thank you Laura, for the reply you've given this person!
And thank you for this wonderful blog, wich I love reading!!!
I agree with Mandie. That comment really pissed me off too. And I'm even more pissed that the coward left it anonymously.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to see you're taking it in stride, Laura. I know I wouldn't have crafted such an eloquent repsonse. :)
I'm always amazed at the people like your fan there who take the time to craft such an eloquent and well thought out letter. Amazing, isn't it? I love pondering the purpose of these things. Is it to change your behavior? To comfort you? To reassure you that someone clearly must care about you enough to comment?
ReplyDeleteIn all seriousness though, I suppose that's always the problem when something becomes large enough to garner the attention of a lot of people. Anything that becomes popular gets haters who at even the mention of the thing will feel the need to incessantly tell you how much they don't like it and why they don't like it even if the reference was only in passing and wasn't even the point.
I fear mentioning an example because I could see the same thing happening right here, but I'm sure you get the idea. XD
So I suppose it's sort of a congrats. You're well liked and known enough now that someone out there made a rude comment. I really hope they do NOT continue.
I promise you that I wasn't the anonymous that said that! Maybe I should start putting a name down (but i don't have a URL and im too lazy to fill stuff out ^^)
ReplyDeleteI love your blog. I love watching the story of your neighborhood develop. Whoever wrote that is probably jealous that they can't make a game of pixel humans into a vibrant neighborhood story.
Mandie try not to let that comment piss you off. Peaple are so sclose minded ans small brained. They have to try and belittle others to make themselves feel good, to feel important. I'm glad Laura was able to have such a sense of humour about this. You can't let idiot jerks like this piss you off. There's more important things in the world to concerned over than stresing over what a 12 year old said. LOL
ReplyDeleteAre the deers lovely there? My mom's patio faces the woods, and when we visited last (Nov?) My brain is fired, we watched them early one morning. I can't wait till we move back down to MD. But who knows. Hubby is really busy right now with work and other stuff. So I'm still in the Da' 'burgh!
I hope that anonymous writes back. It's funny how they never leave a name. Idiot!
Mao, thanks! :) You know, I think I'll end up doing private hosting too, just like you said, because I spend actual time on this stuff, I want to make sure it's safe. If this is happening to photobucket, I'm sure the other free services will follow suit. I actually already pay for some hosting for my real blog, I'm just not sure how much, so I'll be looking into that.
ReplyDeleteMandie, thank you! Don't be too angry, I'm trying not to be ;)
Mizzgin, thanks! Total irony, right? LOL!
Tanja, thank you. You're right, maybe this person *needs* a hobby, they obviously have too much time on their hands to go around leaving stupid comments :)
snarky, thanks! Ah, what are ya' gonna do? I'm already angry enough about other things, so I'd rather laugh about this :)
Lunar, thanks! Another milestone, lol! :)
Anonymous, thanks. I know you've been commenting lately, so I believe you. I think you can leave a name using the name/URL option without leaving a URL. At least that'd separate you from the riff-raff ;)
Riverdale, funny as this has been, I'm sure we can all do without any more opinions from our friend here ;)
I'm really surprised at all the deer, since we also have so many fast-moving highways. I'm terrified one will jump out in front of me one of these days!
This brings up something I've pondered about every now and then. I've never understood the mindset of people who comment on blogs/sites they hate. I come across blogs that I'm not particularly fond of or websites that promote a way of living/thinking that is completely opposite of every belief I have, but you know what I do? I go to a different website. There are one hundred and eleventy gazillion websites on the intarwebs, so why would I waste the little bit of free time I have each day on the ones I don't like? If I don't like a TV show, I change the channel. I don't stay on that channel and make comments to the TV about how stupid the show is or call up the production company to tell them.
ReplyDeleteI guess the people that leave those comments are the ones who themselves have no life. They have no hobbies that make them happy, no family or friends to spend time with, nothing better to do than to try to make others feel as bad about themselves and life as they do. Why devote your life to spreading misery instead of getting out there and enjoying it?
Anyway, great response, Laura. :) Laugh it off and don't let those kinds of comments get to you. As I've heard someone else say, "You're not a one hundred dollar bill. Not everyone will like you." ;) I don't waste my time with people like that, except to feel sorry for the life that they must lead if all can they do with their time is leave mean comments for people they don't know.
Well... I cant believe people have time to actually write that. I have three blogs dedicated to my legacy families. I too have a life which includes a husband. I can not believe that people bother enough to write a comment about something they are not forced to read! Ugh! I love this blog among other that are out there. I love reading about your characters, their stories and dramas. Keep up the great work!
ReplyDeleteWhoa-ditto on the above about the comment making them upset, ditto on the above about said commentor having no life/hater/etc. I also don't understand why some people use the power of words to try to hurt and belittle a person instead of building them up with a simple comment of I loved that-that made my day! or bringing joy to many others by writing delightful stories.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your open letter, the title made a little hurt-I was like "but I"M her number one fan and I didn't get a letter!" :)
-You know what else, I wonder how freelancer Aurora Harris would handle such a fan letter regarding her stories. (Yes, you can totally take it as a writing challenge :P )
Aside from agreeing with pretty much everything everyone else here has said - and loving your response, Laura - the first thing that struck me about the comment was the irony of it... if you would define not having a life as having excessive time and energy to spend on (seemingly) trivial activities due to lack of anything more meaningful to do, then what to make of someone who has sufficient time and energy to post comments like this to random blog pages?
ReplyDeleteAs a bit of an aside, I wonder how anonymous came to read that particular post? It caught my attention because I think that might have been the first one I read when I found this blog. It wasn't the most recent post at that time either. If its the one I think it is, it came up in a search engine when I was looking for information/help after installing the wrong version of RealSickness then couldn't find the page I'd downloaded it from to see what I'd done wrong, a slightly traumatic time for both me and my sims :) At least it lead me to this blog, so it wasn't all bad (the sims involved may disagree! :) ).
OMG, Laura, you have completely made my day! I would hope that I would have the grace & dignity to craft such an awesome reply to an anonymouse (mis-spelled on purpose) hater.
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone :)
ReplyDeleteLaura I am so proud of the way you handled the dweeb. I love Lakeside Heights and check everyday to see if you have posted anything new. You are a wonderful writer and just keep up the good work.
ReplyDeleteDetris
Some people are such idiots, I swear. I'm definitely with Shana on this. I come across at least one website a day that I don't care for, for one reason or another but I've never felt the inclination to bother saying anything to the webmaster/blogger, whatever.
ReplyDeleteThe internet's a big place, you know? There's something there for everyone and if you don't like what you're reading, well, that's what Google is for. Go find something you do like.
