2082, postcards from the edge

*** updates on your favorite Lakeside Heights outcasts ***

This is something I've been meaning to do, though I probably won't do it very often. I do still play some of these move-aways and ex-girlfriend/boyfriends, so I'd like to update you all on what they've been up to, especially the ones you wouldn't hear about through any of my playable Sims. I figure if I've become attached enough to want to check up on them, then maybe some of you might be attached enough to care what they've been doing ;)

*sigh* If only I had time to tell all of their stories...

***

Jason Larson:

Jason is through the roof, because he asked his girlfriend Lynn to marry him, and she said yes! He's wanted to get married for a stinking long time, lol!

Jason really did meet Lynn on the very first day he moved out to Abandia City. She lived in his apartment building, a floor above him, and they hit it off immediately. She's a dolphin tank cleaner, so maybe she stole his heart with the sight of that skin-tight wet suit she wears to work? They had three-bolts right out of the box, and after some time, now have a very strong three-bolts (125 ACR) which is higher than he had with Amelia.

Not higher than he had with Bella, however - though that is water long under the bridge at this point. Do you notice a resemblance to Bella Bradshaw??? She's even wearing the same shade as that pink shirt Bella used to wear. I told you he never got over her, lol! But we'll leave that between them - it's entirely his own business if he wants to carry a torch for Bella his whole life and deal with it however he likes. We'll just call her Bella 2.0, new and improved, now with less mind-games.

But they're so stinking happy. They're planning a June wedding, and his sister Jodie will be invited, if she can stomach all the romance... ;)

George McCarthy and Blossom Moonshine (+ Vicky and Blair):

And for some other exes, George and Blossom are engaged now too - a hot-headed lawyer and a cute little hippie tart! These two really are an amusing pair.

Some of these couples will become sort of "foster parents" to my townie kids without homes. George and Blossom are renting rooms to Vicky Garth (Dallas Deppiesse's ex-girlfriend), and Blair Schehl (Melissa Fortney's little admirer), who both go to school in Lakeside Heights.

I thought I might set up Blair and Vicky (she's 18 now, and he's 16) but they have NO chemistry. It's so bad they're living in the same house and ACR doesn't even register, lol! But they've become very close friends.

Vicky points out that at least Melissa only moved away to the city. At least they didn't have to fight and have it get ugly, because that really sucks. Vicky knows! Because she used to love a boy, and things got ugly, and she's still really messed up over it.

She says she doesn't want to talk about it, but really, it's all she talks about, lol!

Vicky wants to go to college though, so I'll be sending her to LCU in the fall with Summer (who is best friends with Lucy, that ought to be interesting...).

Alana Fortney:

Alana Fortney is settling into her new life in Abandia City with her ex-lover Benjamin. She might want to keep an eye on that landlord though, we wouldn't put it past Benjamin to try to score some cheaper rent.

But otherwise, things are coming along just fine. Alana found some work spelunking with him (if you want to call that work), and Benjamin would like to see her ex-husband dead. Why does he care so much, we wonder? Upon checking his memories, apparently Sheldon kicked his ass? (Go Sheldon, lol!) Lord knows how I missed getting pictures of that!

Alana says, "So you gleefully destroyed my marriage and what, you're like, insecure about it?"

But really, Alana is quite happy here. Sheldon was always the better parent anyway, and now she and Benjamin can screw all day long.

But the biggest deal about the summer is that Melissa is coming to visit, as is decreed in Alana's divorce settlement.

But at least she's not staying in a dump. Melissa has never seen a TV so big! She says, "How can he afford all of this stuff?"

Alana says, "Well, dear, this is the kind of stuff people can buy when they don't have children."

Melissa says, "Oh."

They equipped her bedroom with her very own laptop, so she could keep in touch with her friends back home. She got a couple forward jokes from Lucy, and the only real e-mail she got was from Angelo Shaw, and he addressed it, Hey, sweet thang...

Melissa manages to meet a friend there, and she and Lily go out to explore the town. Melissa says, "Mom, we're going out. Mom? Hey mom!"

"Oh, bye honey, be good," Alana says.

notes: in truth, there's really not much trouble for Melissa to get into in Abandia City at this point. Maybe I'll download a few lots that she can explore. I think I'll even do a mini-update from her POV next summer in Abandia City, that might be fun :)

Marisa Wilson and Roland Ellis are getting married in February, and I'll send Charlotte and Paul to their wedding as guests.
And as much as I really wanted to play Chandler and Jane, I think I might just play them through my "real" families as well.

I've been thinking about the necessary storylines I have here to finish if I want to move some of these characters to Sims 3, and it just doesn't make sense to add more families at this point. They'll be married next fall though, and I'll send Mariah and Micah to their wedding, so you'll still get to see it.

(In fact, speaking of Sims 3, since they don't have any relationship ties to anyone, it might be quite easy to bring over some of these townie-couples as filler, in addition to my chosen "real" families... just an idea. I'll need filler families for the town anyway.)

This is the best way I've found to fight population explosion since I always feel compelled to give the exes and outcasts their own lives, even though the whole point of move-aways is to combat the amount of required households to play. I guess the point is that they're non-required. I just check in on them when I feel I need to. I play my non-playable playables the way most people play their Sims, and not in the minute detail I play my "real" Sims.

So there you go, a few "postcards" from my favorite Lakeside Heights outcasts :)

  1. LOL @ Angelo's email to Melissa! He's definitely his father's son. Someone needs to keep a close eye on that boy. ;)

I'm glad Jason has met someone that he's so happy with. And, well, I guess there's no harm really if she resembles Bella a bit and he can secretly carry that torch, as long as he doesn't expect her to be the real Bella.

George and Blossom look like an odd couple, but they also look so cute together. :)

  2. That was pretty fun. It was interesting to catch up on a few of them, especially Alana. Its so rare to watch a woman go through her midlife crisis.

Two guestions: Is Albania City just a subhood to Lakeside and do your townies all live in homes or do you have a mix of those that disappear and those that don't?

  3. I like the idea of Albania city, maybe, if I ever need one, I do something like it.

I wish you luck on your sims 3 venture. lol For me, I'm sticking with good old sims 2. Granted, maybe with the coming months there will be some awesome hacks for sims 3, and better eps. But until that time comes I'm sticking with sims 2.

Sims 3 doesn't inspire me to play. In truth I haven't played the game in over 2 weeks. I just don't get the puppies and rainbows feelings from the game that I get with sims 2. It's forced play not enjoyable play. Plus, those simsa are freaky looking.

I like the uniqueness I have with sims 2, that you just don't get with 3. Even with thse mods that allow you to change tehir faces and things they all still look the same.

Ok, my rant on sims 3 is over (for now), lol. I look forward (though I will be truly sad) to your moving Lakeside Heights to sims 3. I';ll still red, but it won't be the same. lol.

  4. Shana, if it's even possible, Angelo might have it in him to be even worse than his father, lol! Watch out for sure!

heredon, Abandia City is an extra downtown. It's meant to be a city far away from the Lake County area, and most of my community lots are set to locals only, so it keeps them "moved away."

I do have regular townies too, but any non-playable who enters into the storyline (by friendship or relationship to a playable) has to be made playable to age with the neighborhood, even if I don't care to visit them again. So to save myself from having to actually play all of them in detail, I have non-playable playables (living in Lakeside Heights or Lake City), and move-aways (living in Abandia City).

Riverdale, lol, don't be sad. I promise you'll love it just as much! In fact, if I can't make it just as good, I won't even do it. But I'm sold on Sims 3, I think. With the kinds of mods people are posting after just a few weeks, I'm sure it will shape up nicely in another year once some EPs are released.

With the open neighborhood and whole-neighborhood aging, it would just be a logical progression for me. It's what I'm trying to do with Sims 2 already.

But seriously, this neighborhood and story has AT LEAST another year left in it. That's a long time! And I've said this before, the characters are in my head, and they'll come with me anywhere I like. Some of the ones that don't move over to Sims 3 might even show up in traditional fiction some day, you never know ;)

  5. I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with TS3, though I'm also glad we've got a while longer with LH as it is too.

This was a great update. I always loved Jason and Jodie in my own hood so when I started reading here, I was happy to see someone else using them. So the Jason update in particular was exciting for me. I can definitely see a resemblance between Lynn and Bella though. Same hair too, right, apart from the same colour clothing?

  6. Loved the update, I was expecting little actual postcards and letters from the move-aways. Yea for Marisa and Roland, are they going to move back to Lakeside? I know Marisa mentioned some time being left in her contract.

Since you mentioned "I play my non-playable playables the way most people play their Sims, and not in the minute detail I play my "real" Sims." Can you explain how exactly you play your "real" families vs the non-playable playables?

  7. I think some of us (including me) are just too attached to your TS2 sims. But I'm sure that you'll make me love your TS3 sims too. Certainly can't wait to see what you do with it.

  8. Sullivan, yes, same hair color and style too! Did you play Jason and Jodie in Sullivan, or a different neighborhood?

Apple, good question ;) I think the difference is just playing them in more depth. I think a lot more about the things my real characters want, I explore the possible reasons behind their wants, I dig out the conflicts between their character and the characters of those around them. Basically, I treat my real Sims the way I might write any character in a story.

My non-playables I'll give futures, they'll get married and have children, progress in their careers and buy pretty houses, but I don't dwell on them much more than that. Unless I plan to bring them back ;)

I probably won't bring back Marisa and Roland for the same reason I'm letting Chandler and Jane go. Too many already at this point in the story :(

Lunar, thank you! That you all are so attached is the best compliment :)

  9. Very cool! It's nice to get little snippets on what's going on with the folks 'behind the scenes'. ;) Blossom and George are a hilarious match, I love it. It's totally Dharma and Greg!

LOL at Melissa saying that's what people buy when they don't have kids. Ouch.

  10. Mao, is Alana just the worst mother alive, or what? It almost makes me want to keep playing her, lol!
