December 2079 - Orlando Centowski is 64, Audrey is 63.
Their children have always been artistically-inclined, but as far as they know, neither of them ever took an interest in the visual or sculpting arts - Charlotte was always into cooking, and Luke was always into music and dance. It's kind of old-fashioned to think that your children will want to carry on the family business anyway. Maybe they'll find an independent buyer instead.
Orlando is trying to read the reviewer's mind. She looks pleased, but they never hear anything concrete from her. And somebody needs to remind the Nathan and Allegra Lind, and Jackson and Nessa Phoenix to come pick up their wedding portraits!!! They ordered those portraits ages ago!
Charlotte comes into the shop one night. Audrey wants to show off her new tea sets. The green one would look nice in Charlotte's apartment. Audrey says, "You don't have to pay for that!" But Charlotte insists. She's a grown woman and can pay for her own pottery!
Audrey reminds her that they want everyone over for dinner this weekend, to celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary, and they can't wait to meet this new mystery boyfriend of hers - Audrey won't believe it until she sees it, but Charlotte says they're getting married! And Luke has a serious boyfriend now too. Audrey just wants to have a nice anniversary celebration, and get the family together - she misses her kids now that they're both off in Lake City.
Orlando and Audrey don't have any grandchildren yet, and are a bit unsure of their prospects, Luke being gay, and Charlotte being maritally-challenged... that is, until this recent and impulsive new relationship she's thrown herself into. Her parents aren't judging, but everybody knows Charlotte doesn't have a good track record with relationships.
The family at dinner, a strange arrangement of the couples, lol.
And everyone toasts to the occasion... except for Jim, who interrupts the toast to proclaim his distrust of politics. Kind of rude, but nobody seems to take offense. He must have been talking to Charlotte, with all of her conspiracy theory ideas. Though Charlotte isn't writing for the conspiracy theory magazine anymore and has finally (more than two years out of college) secured herself a job in the culinary field, working as a Sous Chef.
Audrey thinks Charlotte looks happy. Maybe it's her work, and maybe it's the new relationship. In any case, she looks contented. "You look happy," Audrey says.
"I am, Mom, thanks."
Orlando quickly takes a liking to Paul too. He's a very nice young man, and Orlando approves highly. Let's all hope Charlotte doesn't mess this one up!
And Jim is okay too, but passionately touchy about politics for some reason!
In any case, it was nice having the family together, and a successful little celebration. Happy Golden Anniversary to Orlando and Audrey!

notes: how about a shorter one for a change? ;)
Not much going on with the elder Centowskis. She makes pottery, he paints. That's about it... they're just hanging around for some grandbabies! Paul and Charlotte ought to get on that pretty quick - he wants 3! Even Luke and Jim might end up adopting eventually - I would consider finding them a surrogate, but I have no desire to try to pass on Luke's nose, lol!
Orlando and Audrey have a good 5-10 years of working time left, maybe, before they retire. But it's looking like none of the kids, or their future spouses, have any interest in the arts... maybe it's time to look for an apprentice? How do you guys decide who takes over a business if none of the children are interested?
I wish I could focus on businesses more, but I always end up losing interest once they get to rank 10... sigh. So I can't help you there. I usually just let it pass to whomever it may and call it 'duty', LOL.
ReplyDeleteAwww, it's good that Charlotte's found someone, yay!
So is it safe to say Charlotte might get to wear a wedding dress? I hope so,lol.
ReplyDeleteI haven't made it that far in my hood for passing along a store. But I am thinking about it. I have no idea how to do it yet. I'm still trying to figure out how I'm going to do my rotations with some teens going to uni. and others staying home.
Mao, that's actually a good idea, if I don't find someone who wants to run it, I could always just have either Charlotte or Luke set up a manager and collect on it, and have it remain visitable :)
ReplyDeleteRiverdale, lol, I don't know if it's safe to say... I hope so too, but knowing Charlotte, anything's possible. Maybe she should just get married fast, before she has a chance to flake out on him ;)
I do the same as Mao and I just let the business pass to whoever it passes to.
ReplyDeletePoor Charlotte, LOL. I hope Paul turns out to be the right guy for her. She hasn't had much luck.
In Apple Valley so far most children have inherited the business...either because they wanted to or because they wanted to keep the money in the family. They sometimes hire a manager and colelct profits only. Otherwise I guess it could go to the highest bidder or an apprentice.
ReplyDeleteCharlotte will make a beautiful bride, and boy is Paul cute! I hope they have red haired babies!
ReplyDeleteAs for passing along a business, if the kids aren't interested the obvious choice would be someone else in the hood that has an interest in Arts/Crafts or that has a LTW to own 5 top lvl businesses. If that's not fun enough, the Centowski's could always hold an auction and sell it to the highest bidder. Also, one of the kids (or their spouses) might want to keep it in the family, but hire a full time manager to take care of the day to day headache and an artist to take care of the inventory/paintings. Just some ideas for you to chew on!
Oh, and an idea for Riverdale Blogs:
ReplyDeleteIn Harper's Cove, I use Squinge's YA Birthday Cake to turn teens that are NOT going to Uni into YA's anyway. That way they stay the same age as their Uni friends. They can then start their own business or work for other businesses in the community. You need 2 more Squinge hacks that 1.) let you hire YA's in OFB businesses and 2.) let YA's visit community lots. Then you just age them up to Adult using Insimenator when you're ready for them to become adults.
Just a suggestion to keep all your teens the same age even if some go to Uni and some don't. That's how I do it and it works wonderfully.
If you need the links to those hacks, just email me at harperscove@gmail.com !
I'm glad that Charlotte has found someone. Hopefully she'll make it to the altar! :)
ReplyDeleteRight now mine are being passed on to kids to stay in the families, but I think having a sim in the neighborhood that has a hobby related to the business is a good idea.
Mandie, thanks for mentioning those hacks! I was wanting something that would let me keep Sims in the same generation the same age even if some went to college while others didn't.
Wow, my second paragraph in my comment above was a bit confusing! ;) What I meant to say was:
ReplyDeleteRight now my businesses are being passed on to kids to stay in the families. But I think having a sim in the neighborhood that has a hobby related to the business buy it is a good idea.
Sullivan, I hope so too. She has had a rough time of it!
ReplyDeleteApple, good ideas!
Mandie, awww, I want some red-headed babies! I can't even believe it, but I haven't had ANY red-headed babies born since Amelia! And she's 24 sim-years old now! But I think Charlotte's got some pretty dominant brown hair :(
I think I'm going to start doing that too with making teens into YAs for a while, even if they're not attending college. And I've just found a neat YA pregnancy/marriage mod (posted on the sidebar) that I'm testing out, so they can start families if they want - AND so my LCU students will actually have to be careful with all that ACRing they do ;)
Shana, I got it :) I think I'll probably go that route in the end, since Charlotte could end up wanting to open a restaurant of her own, and I already know Luke wants to open a club - they'll be too busy to manage a family business on top of that.
I've got plenty of other Sims in the neighborhood - SOMEBODY has to be interested in art, lol!
OMG, I'm so slow, lol. So college students only could get pregnant with InTeen? I never knew that. Darn, now I'm going to have to try that hack you posted, lol.
ReplyDeleteNevermind I can't use it. It's not compatable with the sims2living teen woohoo/preggos hack. :(
ReplyDeleteRiverdale, yup, that was always inteen. You know, the new ACR (or Simblender, can't remember which) will have an independent teen option. And ACR will let your teens woohoo, so all you'd be missing is the actual pregnancy part - and I just age my teens up to YA if they roll to get knocked up... you know, I figure if they're mature enough to do it, then they can consider themselves YA ;)
