Melissa is charged with taking the photos. Maybe you don't even know who Melissa is. It's okay if you don't. Most people don't. And the only ones who do know her, just know her as Lucy's little cousin.
From the looks on their faces, it looks like April is giving a lecture. It could be anything... teen pregnancy, safe driving, don't do drugs, never let yourself be taken to the second location!?! You know, scare them into safety!
New year's eve is a funny time, especially at midnight... What does it mean, exactly, the new year's kiss? What what does it mean if you don't get one?
Not everybody gets one.

But all this kissing. It stops traffic sometimes! Like, literally, people can't even get out of the kitchen!
Beau's girlfriend couldn't make it to the party, and Melissa thinks he's
way too cute not to have anyone to kiss tonight, though she'd DIE before she had the guts to do it herself! Melissa has a little bit of a super-top-secret crush on Beau Jackson, which is okay since they've never actually spoken a single word to each other before, and since he probably doesn't even know she's alive.
Even people who are not technically allowed to date steal a little kiss in an empty kitchen. After all, it is New Year's Eve, and we can stretch the rules just a little.

Most people don't notice these things, but Melissa does. She notices everything.
And while Melissa contemplates the troubled state of her parents' marriage, Dallas takes it upon himself to have a little chat with Lucy's mom. "So, I really
really like Lucy," he says. "And I would appreciate it if you would let me date her. Maybe just a movie or something."
April's response, "No, absolutely not. Don't you know that teenagers are most likely to get into car crashes when there are other kids in the car?!?"
Oh well, it was worth a try. Hey, at least Lucy is ungrounded and they even let him come to the party. It could be worse - April could have rattled off some statistics on teen pregnancies, because she knows those too.
"Smile!" Melissa says.
"Happy New Year, you weirdo," Lucy says.
Dallas:
*sigh* but she's so dreamy...
We know, Dallas, she sure is dreamy. Hang in there, you can officially date her in 19 more months

Melissa is thinking,
Oh my God, I think he's looking at me!!! Is he looking at me??? Oh my God, oh my God, oh my God!!!...
She remembers one time last summer, at a pool party, when Lucy made her wear some ridiculous lip gloss, and Beau was working evenings at his dad's arcade, and for a moment she thought he might have
really looked at her, and it felt like three bolts!
And so we begin another crazy year in Lakeside Heights! Happy New Year 2081!

Mao, I adore Melissa. She's so quiet and invisible, just like I was at that age :) And yes, Dallas and Lucy are joined at the hip, for sure! They've been that way ever since they met.

ReplyDeleteApple, thanks! I just choose whichever family I want, usually. Or sometimes a family that hasn't had any playtime for a while. But a lot of the time, I use these little mini-update kind of posts to develop the story further than the structure of regular updates allows.
I chose Melissa's family for a few reasons this time - I needed to start plotting some things with her parents, and also I recently "discovered" that she has a crush on Beau. I also wanted to see if April was lighting up about the whole dating thing with Lucy, which she boldly seems to have declared that she's not, lol. But mostly, I just had this image in my head of quiet little Melissa, going around a party sneaking pictures of everyone. Throw all that together, and there you have it ;)

OMG, those poor twins have both had *terrible* acne for the whole of their teenhood! I've never seen acne so persistent before, lol! They'll be going to college at the end of the round, so they're very anxious to grow out of that stage of their lives, lol!
Haha, I agree Melissa is cute. Poor kid, who didn't feel like her at some point in their teenage years?

Valneanne, yes, he's far too old for her, right now. He's 17, she's 13. He doesn't even know who she is, really, except just Lucy's little cousin who's always hanging around. (both Beau and Tyler are best friends with Lucy, lol, because everybody is best friends with Lucy) But who knows, that could change when she gets a little older... ;)
I always love your New Year's Eve parties! All the kissing and fun times going on. I was hoping Melissa would get a kiss from Beau, but I'll settle for the cute picture of him with that giant zit on his forehead! Hahaha, that was so funny!
