Ryanne keeps to herself here. She knows some of the kids on this street from school, but she doesn't want to make friends with them. She doesn't need any new friends, and especially not these kids. These cheesy suburban kids with their smiley happy families - this street, the street her dad just moved them to, this is the kind of street where people move to be smiley and happy. It's like a prerequisite. And these are the cheesiest kids who ever lived.

Like Lucy Harris, her big sister's best friend, and the undisputed cheesiest person alive. Lucy stops, next to that big ugly yellow car, a hunk of sun-shiney cheddar cheese itself, and she shouts, "Happy Birthday Ryanne!"
Ryanne immediately cringes. She could die. She could die, come back to life, and die all over again.
Summer must have told Lucy it was her birthday. And Ryanne hates her sister right now for having such a cheesy best friend. She hates her dad for moving them to this cheesy neighborhood, and for wanting to marry at bubble-gum cheesy woman who is now going to be her step-mother, and she hates the idea of having a step-mother. And she hates this place, being grounded in this place, just look at all the damned picket fences - the only good thing about this neighborhood is the graveyard. And she hates that she got grounded, she hates that they got caught, and she hates Angelo Shaw because he said it wouldn't be much different than kissing with tongues, and no, it was way grosser than kissing with tongues.
And she hates that Sam Harris was coming out of his house too when Lucy shouted, and he heard it too.

Sam moves past her to sit down on the bench. "Happy birthday," he says, grinning wide with a cheesy smile.
She can't really avoid Sam anymore, now that she lives three houses down. She broke up with him, though she was never really going out with him - she just used to kiss him a little in the utility closet, before she started kissing Angelo in the utility closet. Sam never asked her to do anything else though. Except be his girlfriend.

Her birthday. "Yeah," she says. "I guess it is."
"I'm gonna be thirteen next month too," Sam says.
"Yeah? Well it sucks."

The wide grin on his face deflates. "It might not suck."
"It probably will," she says, puffing out a breath into the cold air. "So why don't you ride with your sisters anyway?"
He glances over to the spot where his sister's beastly yellow car just left. "Oh," he says, grin lit up again. "Because there're girls on the bus. Girls who aren't my sisters."

"Ha," Ryanne laughs out loud, hard, short, and stunted. She's not laughing with him, but at him. It's so lame how funny he thinks he is, she could die laughing.
Though he doesn't seem to mind which kind of laugh it is, only that she laughs at all.

notes: just a little one to hold y'all over while I get the next story set in order.
So sorry for the delay. I'm happily coming to the end of the current phase of my novel work, so I hope to have a (reasonably) more steady stream of updates for you soon! Let's try to get some momentum going on this story again, shall we? ;)

Thank you all for your patience, and thank you all for reading!
Oh Ryanne so reminds me of me at that age (except for questionable events in utility closets). To be honest, I still get a little irritated reading about Lucy as she reminds me so much of the girls I hated as a teenager. I'm glad you're going to be updating again, I've become very dependent on my Lakeside heights fix!
ReplyDeleteOh Ryanne. She is so angry! Who can really blame her though, it was pretty hard to be thirteen.
ReplyDeleteAlso, Angelo! Oooh, should have expected that. Wow, he does take after his father too much. But I have to admit that his name coming up in connection to that event did give me my the day's first inappropriate laugh, lol.
And Sam is a cutie! Awww... I'm going to have to keep a closer eye on him. Too bad Ryanne is so angry right now. I bet they would make a cute little couple if she gave it the chance!
What an angry girl, especially on her birthday. It feels like thirteen was just yesterday but I'd like to think that I'm not that angry anymore. Then again she has had to deal with a lot of change in just a few short years. It makes me wonder if she'll grow up to be an angrier teenager. The thought, yikes!
ReplyDeleteI hope Ryanne doesn't brush Sam off completely. She does needs a friend, whether she thinks she's too cool for that or not.
I should have known it would be Angelo with Ryanne in the utility closet! Who else? ;) I had to roll my eyes at him telling her it's just like kissing with tongues! What a line!
ReplyDeleteI'm with Ryanne though. I was nothing like her at 13 but really, that age just sucks for everybody, I think. Even the cheesy ones you think are having an awesome time. It sucks for them too.
Can't believe Sam is 12 and interested in girls! I still think of him as that little boy you saved from dying of the flu!
LOL! It wasn't like kissing, it was "way grosser than kissing with tongues" LOL! Aww, Sam is adorable though, tortured by Ryanne, but still adorable.
ReplyDeleteOh lol at the "way grosser than kissing with tongues". It is hard to be 13 and with so many changes in her life, no wonder she is so unhappy and angry. Hopefully eventually she will get use to the changes and maybe even start liking them.
ReplyDeleteThank you guys for reading! It's good to be back to this story again, and it's also good to know there are still some people left wanting to read it after my superlong absence! ;)
ReplyDeleteCharleston, poor Lucy! lol! But true, it's very hard to be around shiny-happy people when you're not in a shiny-happy mood yourself.
Nina, isn't that the worst!? Twelve/thirteen - there's like, nothing good about that age. Yes, Angelo, lol! I wondered if anyone would have suspected him. He's not the most well-intentioned young man.
Choco, angrier than she is now = yikes, indeed! :o So let's hope she finds some joy to cling to. I don't think it's that she thinks she's cooler than everything and everyone, just that everything sucks, in general, lol!
Carla, poor girl's had to find out the hard way, huh? If nothing else, maybe she'll be put off boys for a little while.
Agreed, nobody is happy as a teenager, even if they seem to be. In general though, at any age, I don't think shiny-happy people are usually truly that shiny-happy on the inside.
Apple, isn't Sam a cutie!? He doesn't know what he's doing in life either, but he's hell bent on having a good time. Not a bad kid to be around! :)
Speechless, unfortunately for Ryanne, she doesn't have much choice but to get used to the changes, but it might be a while before she admits to liking any of it.
Yay you updated!
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking Sam will be one of those light, comedian type characters. At least I hope so!
I sorta did expect it to be Angelo. I think you said a while back before we got to meet him properly that he was his father's son. You hit that nail on the head!
And Ryanne. Poor little mite has had a tough life. Death of mother, father moving on (at least that's how it probably looks to her), living in Summer's shadow and all this recent stuff with Angelo.
I'm hoping that she has a better year this year but then again that would sorta be boring story-wise.
(Oh and in case you haven't guessed, I caught up ages ago.)
I really loved this update. Sam is such a cutie, and Ryanne acts exactly like a 13-year-old girl would - but she's ANGRY. That's very understandable, though.
ReplyDeleteHey Laura! I've been out of the sims community for awhile, but I've decided to come back and I am so happy to see you still trucking along. That's awesome about your novel, I've always hoped you'd write one.
ReplyDeletePoor Ryanne. 13 can definitely be a very confusing age and I remember being angry a lot of that year. Angry at anything and anyone for any reason. I hope she pulls through it and I hope she gives Sam a chance. He seems like a really sweet kid who could really care about her if she'd let him.
I hope you got all sorts of good work done on your novel. I waited very patiently. ;)
ReplyDeletePoor Ryanne. She is THE definition of a moody 13 year old. She might hate me for saying this, but... Happy Birthday! Haha.
And happy birthday to all the rest of course! :)
Awww Sam is a cutie! I like his hair! I have it in my game, but never use it, and it looks great on Sam!! Perfect fit! He seems like such a sweet kid, I hope that Ryanne can make friends with him, I can't see him being as shady as Angelo. As for Angelo... ugh, what a little punk kid! Ryanne would do well to stay clear of him, and hopefully find something to be at least a little happy about.
ReplyDeleteOh Ryanne. She really has hit the age when you hate everything and everyone.
ReplyDeletePoor Ryanne is having a really tough time. I agree with her - being thirteen sucks. Sam is such a nice boy. I really hope Ryanne doesn't push him away. At the very least he seems like he'd be a good friend.
ReplyDeleteOh, sorry I left these for so long! CAW has sucked me into its black hole, lol! I'm having a ton of fun creating my TS3 LH map! :D
ReplyDeleteJoseph, Sam really is a pretty funny and upbeat kind of kid - and now that it's mentioned, he and Ryanne are like day and night, aren't they? lol! Right, she does have a lot on her plate though!
Rosa, thank you! Glad you enjoyed it! And not sure if you've commented here before, but if not, then welcome! Glad to have you reading! :)
Mandie!!!!! Hi, how are you!?! Yes, still trucking along with the story, but it's moving along so slowly that I bet hardly any time at all has passed since you last read, lol! But a lot of drama packed into a short time, I suppose!
Glad to see you around again! :)
Coolkat, lol, thank you for being patient! I did get a ton of work done, so the time was put to good use. I was worried some of y'all would forget about me and LH while I was gone, so I'm very glad to hear you were looking forward to the return!
Maisie, isn't that hair adorable!? You're right, it doesn't work well on many, but I thought it suited Sam perfectly.
And Angelo, lol! Yes, he's a troublesome one, but he sure does add some chaos to the neighborhood! I'd like to reprimand him and tell him he'll never find a nice girl with an attitude like that, but at the mindset he's in now, he'd probably see that as a good thing, lol!
Nicole, poor girl's having a bad patch right now, for real! Bad even for a thirteen year-old at that.
Sarah, I'd like to see them be friends too. I can see them having a lot to offer each other in that way. You know, at the least... ;)
Thanks for reading everyone! :)
Oh, wow, Ryanne... I should have guessed it would be Angelo! :)
ReplyDeleteShe's really determined not to like anything, isn't she? Hope she can be friends with Sam, they seem like a good pair together.
Aww, Sam seems sweet. Ryanne, on the other hand...given what she was caught doing in the utility closet with Angelo, you'd think that having Lucy wish her a happy birthday would be nothing! Teenagers. Maybe Sam can help her shrug off a bit of that cynicism?
ReplyDeletePoor Ryanne. What an unhappy birthday but she shouldn't have been doing questionable things with Angelo in the utility closet. And why am I not surprised that it was Angelo. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
ReplyDeleteSam is cute and happy. Ryanne could take some lessons from him.
Blackcat, Rachel, and Monique, she is quite determined to see things the way she wants to see things, and well, she's getting what she wanted too then. Being around Sam could be very eye-opening for her.
ReplyDeleteRachel, but she also probably finds a small bit of pride in getting caught doing something bad, lol! Or at least that's the way she's seeing it! ;)
Thanks for reading everyone! :D
Where did you get sam's hair? I must have! They would make a cute couple if Ryanne would just notice him!
