* soundtrack for all parts, "Landslide," by Fleetwood Mac *

What the hell is that supposed to mean???
He also didn't know that a swarm of bees had taken up inside it. The coin he tossed disrupted their sleep, and in the space of seconds, they woke up and rushed toward him. He was stung thirty-two times.

He just can't seem to catch a break in this godawful place. And it's not just the bugs.

"Did you know," she says, "That there's this fountain in the plaza, and they say if you do it there, your love will be blessed for eternity?"
"You know," Fenton says. "I think it's just a kiss - you just have to kiss there."
"Oh, really?" she says. "Well, either way."

Maybe he's just lonely. Or maybe it's just the fact that she always seems to be talking about it, in all its various forms. Either that, or it's that he can hear them doing it, through their paper-thin walls, and the noises she makes, when they're doing it are really very vocal.
Or that everything she says seems to be twisted into something bordering on pornographic.
"You must be really good with your hands," she says.
He almost chokes on his salad. "What?"
"Oh, Fenton told me you aced that interspace mechanics course," she says. "And in your first year. That's really impressive."

"I mean, congrats and everything," she says. "That one was so hard."
She said, hard.

He misses Lucy. A lot. He thinks about her in the shower, and when he's alone in bed at night. He thinks about her when Iris is making her love noises, which are so voluminous through the ridiculously paper-thin walls. Lucy's sounds are nicer, softer but not necessarily quieter. Sometimes he can hear her sweet sighs so clearly in his ears, as if they were etched into his memory, so real they seem to share the same space with the noises Iris makes. Which only leads him to imagine the both of them, images flashing through his mind, entangled, touching, kissing.
No, that doesn't help either. Useful, yes. But in the longterm, no, not helping.

She tells him about her first weekend on campus with Summer. "Was it fun?" he asks.
"It was okay," she says.
"It's probably different than here," he says. "It's quiet here, but you know, that's kind of the point."
"Yeah," she says. "It wasn't quiet there."

"Oh, Beau was there?"
"Yeah, of course he was. And April. And Vicky too. It was so weird."
"That is weird," he says.
"But it was okay," she says. "She didn't try to beat me up or anything."
"It kind of sounds like fun," he says. "So what did your parents say?"
She still hasn't told her parents yet. She told him she wasn't wearing it at home, not as long as they still didn't know. She keeps the ring tucked into her bra when she's home, nestled safe beside the cleavage of her left boob, dear and close to her heart.

"Not all my family," she says. "Sarah and Sam both know. My grandparents, and Melissa."
"I told you you didn't have to answer me right away if you didn't want to. I didn't want you to be ashamed of it."

"Then what?"
Her voice crackles, which only sounds amplified over the cell phone connection. "My parents aren't like yours."

"He'll be okay," Dallas says.
"I hope so," she says. "I don't even know what I'd do if something happened to him."
But they have a midterm project to finish, and Fenton's portion of the project will have to be done on his laptop in bed, while Iris and Dallas cover his end of the research.

Dallas learned from one of them how to tend a zen garden. It takes a steady hand, sound mind, and lots of practice, and the raked stones are meant to symbolize the soothing ripples of water. It reminds him of the lakeshore back home, his bedroom window open and falling asleep to the gentle waves of Lake Michigan crashing across the boardwalk. He misses it so much.

Dallas hadn't even noticed it was raining. It's fall here, just like it is back home, but the weather is so different. It's misty and mild, but the dew leaves a chill on the skin at the same time. It's nearly November, and at home everything would be dry and crunchy, waiting for the first snow.

Fenton and Iris never met Lucy, even though they knew Beau and April and Tyler from their classes last year. "What's she like?" Iris asks him, after finishing her rice, gazing out across the quiet village.
"She's my best friend," he says. "And the most beautiful girl in the world, at the same time."

"I thought Fenton might ask me sometime," she says. "He hasn't though. We've been dating three years."
"It's probably more normal that he hasn't yet, at our age," Dallas says. "I don't know, I just wanted her to know I meant it, that I was coming back."

She's nervous, and it makes him nervous. It's too dark for him to read her eyes.

"I should take some tea back to Fenton," she says. "It might make him feel better."

(footnotes: part 1 // the engagement // on Japanese rock gardens)
notes: the bees and that exact fortune really happened to Dallas the very first day he was there! Before he'd done anything else - I sent him to toss a coin, and he got fire and bees and a fortune that read, "The time will come for you to make a decision."
Dude, creepy!
Because you're probably curious, Dallas and Iris do have three bolts (about 91) together. He's higher with Lucy (105), and she's higher with Fenton (120/30-something), if that makes you feel better about them being cooped up in such close quarters ;)
And I finally tried out that photoshopped tears tutorial over at simhaven, on that second picture of Lucy. It's so subtle you probably didn't even notice, lol! But I was quite ridiculously proud of the way it turned out. I think it's much more useful and realistic than any of the tear masks I've seen.
Who are Fenton and Iris? Were they random students, or did you specifically choose a couple to be roommates with Dallas, so that there would be no random dormies who would dare interfere with Dallas and Lucy's happy ever-after?
ReplyDeletePoor Dallas, the only way out for him seems to be burying his head in the sand, or in writing term papers until the ordeal is over. Hope he does get something positive out of the experience though. Studying abroad is meant to broaden one's horizon, isn't it?
It was so funny when Fenton told Iris he thought, to be blessed forever, you really only have to kiss and she said, "Well, either way." Very entertaining character development there--and of course, the way almost everything she said was bordering on pornographic. Poor Dallas, choking on his food and listening to them through the walls, in addition to being so home sick and Lucy-sick. But Iris is not wooden--with being worried about Fenton when he was sick and being so considerate of Dallas missing Lucy.
ReplyDeletelepifera, lol, well if I was going to rig it in Dallas's favor, I wouldn't have picked a girl he had chemistry with! ;)
ReplyDeleteNo though, I didn't consciously rig it either way. You guys first met Fenton and Iris here, and then again here. They were a dormie couple when Beau, Tyler, and April were freshman last year.
My game is wonky or something, because my hotels lag SO badly, so I prefer to play the academy as a residence, otherwise all the hotel travelers spawning and my game literally just comes to a stop. But I also don't want to send just one student alone, so I usually pick a few dormies to go along to study. I usually try to pick playable students, if there are any. But with Justin, I had to pick just a few random dormies, and that turned out funny :)
Francesca, Iris was entertaining me greatly in this! She was always so quiet as a character (and I certainly don't mean in bed, lol!), that I never really noticed her much. Fenton was the one who made friends with everyone first. But then here, being just the three of them, it really gives me a chance to get to know her better, and I'm glad, because she's funny!
I think she's knowledge/pleasure, and those pleasure Sims can have gutter brain sometimes too! ;) Fenton is family/popularity, by the way.
Yes, I'm very nervous about Dallas and any girl while he's away right now! Anything can happen in a moment of weakness. And he's so sweet, I can see him feeling unworthy of Lucy if he even accidentally kisses someone else in a moment of weakness.
ReplyDeleteFenton, get better and keep Iris distracted!
And Iris really is hilarious. I love her gutter brain and how it affects Dallas. "She said, hard." Haha!
Okay, I know you didn't mean this, but when Lucy says that her parents are like Dallas', in his pic there is that alien poster. And it cracked me up, because in my head it popped in "yeah, mine is an alien." LOL I entertain myself for well. LOL
ReplyDeleteOkay, so after Dallas got the "you'll hav eto make a decision," I'm a bit nervous about him and Iris. So I'm bitting my nails. Do you think Dallas will come home early and finish up school there?
I want to scoop Dallas up and run far away with him so he can't be anywhere near Iris with all those thoughts running through his head, lol! ;) Very creepy about that fortune he got. It would be nice to see Dallas and Lucy back together, but then Dallas shouldn't have to sacrifice something he's really wanted to do. So I'm just hoping that they'll make it through this time apart and grow stronger in their relationship. And, Lucy, hurry up and tell your parents before someone else does! lol :)
ReplyDeleteLunar, this is so much pressure on poor Fenton, huh? Dude needs to step up his game, and he doesn't even have a clue what's going on, lol!
ReplyDeleteThis is proving to be interesting for me though - having to understand the weakness and what it's stemming from, and given who Dallas is, how he would or wouldn't react to it.
You see, I suck at dishing out spoilers lately, so I'll just blab a bunch of nonsense in these replies instead ;)
Riverdale, LOL! No, I didn't intend that, but too funny! :)
Wasn't that just the most ominous fortune ever??? I just about jumped out of my seat when that popped up, knowing what I knew about his story so far. It's not quite shaping up to be the experience he thought it would be, but an important one regardless.
Shana, You know the funny thing about Iris and Dallas is that I'm not sure which one of them it's really coming from. Is she just saying regular things, and the kink is all in his head - or is she really just kinky? Could be either... probably both. You know those knowledge Sims are really closet freaks - I mean, geeze, just look at my Adam and Heather Thompson! ;)
Lucy's really pulling out all the available excuses not to have to tell her parents, lol!
What can I say? I absolutely adore Lucy! She's so sweet! I think she's still a little insecure, though. Dallas being near Iris just makes me nervous, because I'd be heartbroken if Dallas and Lucy didn't work out lol! They are just the most adorable couple! I think the shots with Lucy on the phone are really quite good, especially the one with the tears, which causes a realistic but subtle effect. And the one with Dallas in the shower is really nice with the lighting and such. Great job, I love reading about Lucy and Dallas!
ReplyDeleteI'm kind of loving Dallas with his little ponytail - suits him!
ReplyDeleteHe's higher with Lucy (105), and she's higher with Fenton (120/30-something), if that makes you feel better about them being cooped up in such close quarters ;)
Yes. Yes, it does. But still, hands off, Iris! LOL. I actually have faith in Dallas but I just don't know Iris well enough yet to trust her. Dallas could be twisting her innocent comments into something kinky in his head or maybe Iris is just a massive, massive nympho! Who knows? Those Pleasure secondaries are inscrutable!
Oh, I love Dallas and Lucy together (which you know!) and it's making me so sad to see them apart. I hope this experience strengthens them as a couple rather than weakens them. It could go either way, unfortunately.
Dallas' ponytail! OMG!
ReplyDeleteI admire you very much for NOT having Dallas and Iris kiss! They're both in committed relationships, and the fact that they both stayed faithful was nice to read. (and yes, I'm looking at you Leila.)
The scene between Lucy and Dallas was so sad. I'm really rooting for them! And that tear was so subtle... and so perfect.
I love your study abroad program! And I am certainly FREAKED OUT by Dallas' fortune.
Isabella, thank you! I have to admit, that shower pic had me blushing a little. Don't know why - I never had a problem shooting Tyler butt naked his first year in college, multiple times, lol! But with Dallas, I was like, OMG, when did he get so grown up? :o
ReplyDeleteCarla, don't you love that little ponytail on Dallas? I think it looks adorable! :)
Looking back through everything, we do have a little bit of a history on Fenton and Iris, the two posts linked above, plus this one where she promptly shoots down Tyler, lol! So based on what we've seen of her so far, I think it's safe to say she really is crazy about Fenton, so that's worth something. But as far as is it Dallas being kinky, or Iris being a nympho, I'd have to say it's probably a little of both ;)
Billy, lol! Don't admire me, admire them! They're making their own stories here, and I'm just the writer. I know everybody loves Dallas and Lucy together (as do I!), but I can't protect them without cheapening the story. They have to protect themselves.
But I must have you all spooked from having just read about Leila. You all probably think I'm deadset to break up every one of your favorite couples. For the record, I'm not deadset to break anybody up. And I never break up anyone who truly belongs together... except Summer and Tyler. But breaking up over and over again just seems to be their thing ;)
I'm glad you noticed the tear. I spent a good half-hour on that one tiny tear, lol!
I liked the ponytail, too... at first I thought it made him look too old, then I realized that, hey, he is getting older, and I have this overbearing mother thing going on - "But you're not ALLOWED to grow up!!"... lol...
ReplyDeleteYay for Dallas, and Iris, for not kissing or anything... hope they can keep it that way!
I saw the tear! I'm so proud of myself! Lucy and Dallas are so sweet, I love them :) I'm glad that Dallas is keeping himself under control about Iris. I laughed so hard at the beginning. *Hee hee, I said hard :P *
ReplyDeleteBlackcat, I do feel that "mothering" thing too, with some of them more than others. Summer, Tyler, and Beau grew up fast for me, so when they got to college, they already felt grown. But Dallas is one of my young'uns, and Lucy too except that with her, I don't feel her growing up at all really, even though she probably should being that she'll be 18 next year. OMG, shocking!
ReplyDeleteI'm happy to say a lot of my teenagers are growing up at their own pace, like Melissa and Liza, and even Fiona really. I think some of the younger teenage crowd might give us trouble though. (Yes, I'm talking about Angelo, lol!)
Tessa, LMAO! See, this is why I love you guys! Otherwise, I'd just be sitting here making crass jokes by myself ;)
"hard" haha, that line was great. Wow Iris sure is a character! It's nice to see Fenton and Iris in this setting, gives them more time in the limelight. As for Dallas and her... it's not that I don't trust his character... it's that I don't trust ACR. :x Which I guess in the sim world could be equivalent to hormones.
ReplyDeletePoor guy, just wants Lucy to announce the engagement, and it definitely seems to be hurting him that she doesn't. With that, and the long distance, I feel sad for the poor guy.
Maisie, I tend to think of ACR as hormones too. But the most worrisome thing is that even when you've got a Sim set to "spouse only" on ACR, sometimes the default Maxis flirts and kisses can take over and trump ACR - or maybe that only happens with Corbin and Leila, lol!
ReplyDeleteDallas is definitely disappointed that she won't tell her parents - though I bet she would have had an easier time of it if he could have been there to tell them with her.
